For how long have I used the solution?

I am currently using the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I give the stability a six out of ten. We had a bug that required a third party to fix the issue.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I give the scalability a five out of ten with our current version which does not support further scaling.

We have 50 people using the solution in our organization.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support sometimes takes longer to resolve the issue.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

I give the initial setup a seven out of ten. We had some difficulty when setting up the solution. The deployment took one year to complete.

What about the implementation team?

The implementation was completed by a third party.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I give the solution a seven out of ten for pricing. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is cheaper than some others. In addition to the license, we pay for third-party support.

What other advice do I have?

I give the solution a seven out of ten. The solution does not meet all our requirements and does not support advanced features.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

We can see that Microsoft Teams is giving us more services and we were able to conduct meetings on it during the pandemic
Pros and Cons
  • "We are getting more features after switching to Microsoft 365."
  • "There is some network issue."

What is our primary use case?

We are using almost all the facilities which Microsoft 365 offers, like SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and normal email.

How has it helped my organization?

The tool runs all the areas of our organization. We were using a normal standalone before that, but it is better now. We can see that Microsoft Teams is giving us more services. We were able to conduct meetings on it during the pandemic. Working from home turned out to be good for us.

What needs improvement?

Right now, we don’t have any issues. We had some network issues happening before. Sometimes we face problems with security.

I think they should make it more secure with signature security, zero-trust, or something else. It will be even better for us as we get some phishing mail from a phishing server.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Microsoft 365 for around a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We are in a remote area where there is some network issue. The remaining aspects are all good. So from the office side, we can give it a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Around 300 people in our organization use Microsoft 365.

How are customer service and support?

We didn't face any issues from that side. We are still in contact with a local vendor. When the issue comes, we get instant support from them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using a standalone. We are getting more features after switching to Microsoft 365.

How was the initial setup?

It's simple. We were using a standalone. We switched it with the login and didn't have a hard time with that one.

What about the implementation team?

We have one consultant, but right now the contract is going to finish.

What other advice do I have?

We do recommend the product. If the network issue gets to a normal level, we can rate it around an eight out of ten.

Lets us centralize all our information on the same platform
Pros and Cons
  • "The most important feature of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is that it lets us centralize all our information so that we don't need to rely on any other software outside of Microsoft."
  • "I think Microsoft should improve on the process of how the user decides on a business workflow. For example, there may be some kind of drag-and-drop interface that lets us decide for ourselves how to develop the business workflows that fit our purpose."

What is our primary use case?

In our market, we use most of the modules in Microsoft Dynamics NAV for manufacturing consulting and implementation, which is our main customer demand right now. However, we also use other ERPs such as SAP, Odoo (open source software) and we also have some experience with Oracle NetSuite. Additionally, we do many integrations with SAP, but we're not using SAP much currently.

How has it helped my organization?

One of the ways in which Microsoft Dynamics NAV has helped our company is that it allows us to centralize our information on the same platform.

What is most valuable?

The most important feature of Microsoft Dynamics NAV is that it lets us centralize all our information so that we don't need to rely on any other software outside of Microsoft.

What needs improvement?

I think Microsoft should improve on the process of how the user decides on a business workflow. For example, there may be some kind of drag-and-drop interface that lets us decide for ourselves how to develop the business workflows that fit our purpose.

But it's not just about the interface. We often deal with multilevel workflows, depending on the department or the person in charge, and there isn't enough flexibility in the way we need to make certain adjustments. Our workaround has been to perform some custom development alongside Dynamics NAV to enable us to refine the workflows.

Partly because of the pricing structure of Dynamics NAV, we have a plan to migrate to Dynamics 365 Business Central, essentially moving it into the cloud version. If we compare Dynamics 365 Business Central to other competitors like SAP or NetSuite, the price is not too high and not too low. However, for our own brand I think Dynamics NAV is good enough for us right now.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Microsoft Dynamics NAV for more than four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I think it's stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's scalable in some ways, but in other ways not so much. Which is okay, because at the moment lots of people simply want a standard low-cost platform.

How are customer service and support?

We use the support from another vendor, not directly from the Microsoft team.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The on-premises model of Dynamics NAV is very expensive, hence our plan to migrate to Dynamics 365 Business Central, which appears to fit our needs better in terms of pricing. Compared to competitors, the cloud version of Dynamics is in the middle; not too high and not too low.

What other advice do I have?

We are both partners and clients of Microsoft and to others looking into Dynamics NAV, I will advise that if you're looking for a central platform to work on, you should view Microsoft 365, Office 365, etc., and other Microsoft products together and innovate. Integrate and collect all the information between your systems.

For us, the day may be coming to move to Dynamics 365 Business Central, and if you want to centralize all your data in one platform going forward, that's what I would recommend as well.

I would rate Microsoft Dynamics NAV an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Very easy to scale and the new pricing model is a lot cheaper
Pros and Cons
  • "All of the features are valuable, depending on where you implement them. I've done implementations in 60 countries, across 86 different companies and groups, and each company has a different reason for why they want to use it. Every single feature that I've implemented has been successful, and for some companies, where they didn't use the functionality, they have moved to external products or they've integrated into other applications."
  • "Microsoft Dynamics NAV could be improved in terms of exporting income statements and balance sheets. Currently, there is a feature, but you can only have the last three years. I spent some time trying to improve the KPI portion that exports the data, that already calculates the sub forms or subtotals, but they weren't able to break that up into different dimensions. They've now managed to crowd the separate table and you can export that, but it's only for the last three years. So, they could improve this solution by getting the chart of accounts or the account schedules to be exported, where you can go further than just three years with it."

What is our primary use case?

Microsoft Dynamics NAV is used for sales, purchasing inventory, manufacturing, advancing fixed assets, document integration, and now there is also a service module. This solution is now called Business Central, but it's the same product.

I have implemented Microsoft Dynamics both on cloud and on-premises, but the company I work for now has it deployed on-premises.

What is most valuable?

All of the features are valuable, depending on where you implement them. I've done implementations in 60 countries, across 86 different companies and groups, and each company has a different reason for why they want to use it. Every single feature that I've implemented has been successful, and for some companies, where they didn't use the functionality, they have moved to external products or they've integrated into other applications.

What needs improvement?

Microsoft Dynamics NAV could be improved in terms of exporting income statements and balance sheets. So, they could improve this solution by getting the chart of accounts or the account schedules to be exported, where you can go further than just three years with it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this product for 21 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I'd say Microsoft Dynamics NAV is stable.

The SQL portion does require some maintenance. From an operational perspective, you do need to do some housekeeping to keep it up to date. In terms of maintenance, the only maintenance that you really need, from a consultant perspective, is if you want to upgrade to a new version or if you want to implement new features from the new cumulative update. But it's not really regarded as maintenance—it's more of an upgrade.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Microsoft Dynamics NAV is very easy to scale, as long as you understand the limitations of the product. There is a bit of a problem if too many people try and pro-post simultaneously to the general ledger. You do get locked out sometimes. So, you have to look at the size of the company—and you can add as many companies as you want—but when you go over 250 users, you have to start looking at a larger product. It's significantly scalable, but there is a limit to how many users per company you should have before you start getting performance issues.

I specialize in the manufacturing companies, but I've implemented this solution for companies of all sizes.

How are customer service and support?

I think that Microsoft's technical support is extremely good, but that's just because I used to deal directly with the development team at Microsoft and I used to present at events. From my experience, it's very good. There have been some instances where they didn't get it right, but the majority of the time—I'd say 99% of the time—they give good advice.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

From a business intelligence perspective, I have connected or created cubes or analytics services from multiple databases, anything from SAP, Pascal, JD Edwards, Oracle, Cognos, Executive Viewer. For ERP, I'm only working with Dynamics NAV and Business Central.

How was the initial setup?

I'm regarded as an expert, so the initial setup was easy because I've worked with it for so long and I've done so many implementations. Past partners still use me as a resource that they can lean on if they have any issues with their solutions. For me, I think the product is quite easy, but that is purely because of the experience and knowledge that I have about the product.

What about the implementation team?

I have implemented this solution myself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The cost is one of the benefits. If you don't want to go for the full-blown finance and operations, the pricing model is a lot cheaper and has now switched to being based on a per-user subscription. So, if it's on cloud, you now have an expense instead of a large CapEx. If it's on-prem, you obviously still have to continue with the licensing model that they have, but if you compare the features and functionality, in terms of the price that you pay, I find it's better than other products.

My answer on the pricing would be slightly different, depending on the country you're in and the return on investment, based on the size of the company. It's well-priced internationally. I think the new model is priced even better because it's now subscription-based and, if you go for cloud, the return on investment is a lot quicker and if it's expense, you can cap it. If you do take the on-prem version, the licensing is still priced as what it used to be, so that would depend on what country you are in.

What other advice do I have?

My rating is biased because I'm a Microsoft resource, but I rate this solution a 10 out of 10.

To those looking into implementing this solution, I would first advise you to do your research. Make sure that the product does what you want it to do. You also need to understand the limitations of the product. If you want a payroll system, it's not a payroll system. You need to know these kinds of things.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Very well integrated but the area of customizations could be improved
Pros and Cons
  • "The vertical covers all aspects of functionality and integrates easily with the existing Office products."
  • "We need to customize more often than we would like."

What is our primary use case?

We have the standard NAV and we also have a vertical that's developed for the auto dealership business industry. Both of them are based NAV but the vertical is also based on Dynamics NAV. It has simplified a lot of the issues in product selections and the like. The reseller is certified on their platforms, and we obviously use the product. We have quite a strong partnership with Microsoft.

What is most valuable?

The solution is very well integrated and doesn't require a lot of work in that respect. We're happy with it. One of the advantages is that, for example, the vertical covers all aspects of the functionality for the various areas of operations and integrates easily with the existing office products, BI, and CRM. On top of that, there are a lot of resources available for this platform to do whatever integration is required. Essentially, we use the SharePoint product, Offices 365, the mail, all are well integrated. On top of that, there are a few other functionalities that could be coming out on Office 365 which would help us to improve our processes.

What needs improvement?

Because the platform is open, the ERP is open. Sometimes we have to do a few customizations for improving our internal processes which we do that as we go along, we've got all the GDPR things in there. It covers a lot of the aspects that we need to manage. An improvement would be the customizations that we do tend to limit by adapting our processes to the software. I'd say we'd be adapting around 60-70% and customizations would be around 30%. We don't want to diverge a lot from the standard version.

We have to deal with a lot of audit issues coming from various places which is a time-consuming process. Auditors like to see who has got permissions for this and that. That's a bit of a hassle to get it out, but we do it. It's not the functional side that's an issue.

I'd like to see the ability to address certain queries simplified. Not operational queries, but business issue queries, from the perspective of somebody who's managing the software.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using this solution for around 14 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's quite a stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

What we consider as a large customer here, or a large base here in Mauritius would be considered small in other countries. We've scaled up to about 700 users or so and it's scaled pretty well. We started with like 150 or 200, now we are 700, but it scaled quite well. No big issues there. We have plans for expansion in the future. We have four engineers trained on the software to deal with all support issues.

How are customer service and technical support?

We don't interact directly with Microsoft for support. We go through our service provider. If you look at the Microsoft model, Microsoft or our vertical company does the software, and then they deploy it for partners. We go to those partners. We've been with them for around 14 years and support has been quite good the whole time.

How was the initial setup?

No, it's not complex. Microsoft has done a lot since our first version in 2006, we don't have to do any major upgrades anymore. It doesn't take like three days to do an upgrade. Now it's a very simple process that takes about half a day to move to a new version. So they've broken down the upgrade process into chunks that we receive every three months or every four months. So in terms of manageability is much better. We don't have to do a big upgrade project anymore. They've done a lot of work on this for the past years, and it's now very easy to do things in there, to do those projects.

What other advice do I have?

If we require customization, we go to the service provider. We also have project managers on the side who come up with various options and solutions. Then it goes through a certification process. If customization is required, we go to our service provider, who is certified to change the system. So we don't do any development as such.

Our plan is to move most of our workload to the cloud, so we've been concentrating on Office 365 for the past couple of years. We're nearly there, but there are still a few things to move over. After that, we will be looking at an Azure infrastructure for the ERPs. The coronavirus has accelerated the move.

I would rate this solution a seven out of 10. Not a ten because there's always room for improvement.

Good security features and scalable solution
Pros and Cons
  • "The security feature, particularly the encryption, which still builds sensitivity, is one of the most valuable features."
  • "There is room for improvement in terms of compatibility."

What is our primary use case?

We are using the E5 license. So everything across the E5.

What is most valuable?

The security feature, particularly the encryption, which still builds sensitivity, is one of the most valuable features.

What needs improvement?

There is room for improvement in terms of compatibility. Compatibility with Mac is not there. Many functionalities are visible on the Windows version that are missing on the Mac.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central for one year. So it's the most efficient version we get.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. There are around 50 to 100 users in our organization. We plan to increase the usage with time.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. But it takes time based on need because we are growing too. So it's not like we fully set up at once.

What about the implementation team?

Five to ten technical staff members are enough for the integration and maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You need to pay for a license, but the monthly cash flow option is affordable.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend the solution. Overall, I would rate it an eight out of ten.

Good integration with Power BI and very robust; lacks a user friendly UI
Pros and Cons
  • "Has good integration with Power BI."
  • "The UI is not particularly user-friendly and the CRM could do with some enhancements."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution for auto processing, procurement, and finance. We are customers and resellers. Our customers are mostly in the mid-market and the SMB level. I'm a sales manager.

What is most valuable?

This is a robust solution. I like the integration with Power BI wherein we are able to deploy multiple reports along with Power BI. We have access to all the reports we need in one dashboard. It's very useful for us and for the sales department, in particular.

What needs improvement?

I'd like to see some enhancements on the CRM side which is currently at a very basic level. The UI is not particularly user-friendly and that could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

Our company has been using this solution for about a year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable, we have around 15 people using it for data and 20 team members who are using 365. We have two admins dealing with maintenance.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used Microsoft Navision.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not that complex.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing costs are competitive and fair. I believe we pay somewhere around $80 to $100 per month for a license.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution seven out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable, priced well, and quick technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "The customer support is good. The first level of support agent in every case was able to solve the problem very quickly."
  • "There is a lot of improvement needed in the top model, such as better integration with logistics, quality management, and data modeling for all revenue types."

What is our primary use case?

The solution can be used to manage everything inside of your business. This includes, and not limited to, accounting, resources, inventory, logistics, sales, purchases, employee management, and protection.

How has it helped my organization?

We are very dependent on this solution. We manage almost all of our business processes, it has helped us a lot. We could not live without it.

What needs improvement?

There is a lot of improvement needed in the top model, such as better integration with logistics, quality management, and data modeling for all revenue types. The revenue resources could be improved by having one common table with revenues. Furthermore, I have found when it comes to customization of the solution, I have had to do some modifications in areas to cover our requirements this has been the case with my colleagues and other companies as well.

In the future, there could be a better connection to Microsoft CRM and the field service area within this solution needs improvement. Microsoft Dataverse is a program where you can exchange data between the two solutions and there needs to be better integrated.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for approximately 30 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable.

How are customer service and technical support?

The customer support is good. The first level of support agent in every case was able to solve the problem very quickly.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of the solution is reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

My advice to those wanting to implement this solution is to train and educate their new developers and in-house staff about the solution.

I rate Microsoft Dynamics NAV a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
