It's easy to use for image-based backups, but needs to support more storage systems.

What is most valuable?

It's fast and easy for image-based backup across all platforms. The user interface is easy to use, and I used it on a virtual server, as a backup server.

How has it helped my organization?

It solved our problem with Linux servers by giving us an image based backup system that is easy to use. It's even better than Symantec system recovery, as it it more user friendly, as well as being easier to use in general.

What needs improvement?

It would be nice if it could support more types of storage.

What other advice do I have?

As far as I know , acronis is multiplatform destination support, but as I said, working with Acronis is much easier that Symantec. You may get confused most of the time when using Symantec. I used Acronis for network storage.

A must have cost effective backup and recovery solution for SMEs for quick recovery but not for high end applications.

Valuable Features:

The recovery system works great. I recovered the systems in few minutes from a disaster. It has a very clear and easy to use Interface. The vast amount of knowledge base articles on its site is great for troubleshooting issues. I liked the feature to split backups into multiple files to fit different media types. It has data encryption, which encrypts your backups as a security precaution.

Room for Improvement:

I found logs are not enough for troubleshooting in case of failures. Absence of file filtering tools is disappointing. Does not provides advance backup solution like granular backup of emails.

Other Advice:

I bought this software for backup of workgroup based computers and it worked great for them. Scheduling was quite easy and the recovery process was awesome. Due to some power failure our 10 systems crashed which were recovered in few minutes by the Acronis recovery partition. However it lacks advance features like granular backup and data filtering hence unsuitable for enterprise level.

No one solution can address all needs and hence it has definite segment and requirements where it fits well. Surely, from reviewers experience seems that complex point in time recoveries might pose some challenges in case a fault has occurred. Worked with oracle backup recoveries and liked the SCN based recoveries which leaves a room to go to a certain point back in time if last back is not good. How it is handled in Acronics, any ideas?

Provides backup and storage for our production PC's but the storage nose is stuck frequently and we have to reboot it.

What is most valuable?

Backup and Recovery for our production PCs.

How has it helped my organization?

End user can manage backup and recovery on its own efficiently once a product PC has failed during production.

What needs improvement?

The ability to use computing resources, the storage nose is stuck frequently and we have to reboot it, and I'm told that it needs 128GB memory and SAS disk to keep it stable, all of these elements leave me unsatisfied.

For how long have I used the solution?

We just started deploying the product company-wide.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

Yes, it's for HW requirement described above, because we hadn't been told the requirement by Acronis before we started.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Yes see above.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Nope.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using Altiris.

How was the initial setup?

It was straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

We did it on our own based on the design provided by Acronis.

What other advice do I have?

Optimize resource usage on dedup, look at Avamar which has dedup capability with moderate usage.

Management console is able to control all backups from one location, but the cleanup function has never worked

What is most valuable?

One license per VMware Host to backup all the VMs on that particular host.

How has it helped my organization?

Management console is able to control all backups from one location.

What needs improvement?

Error log interpretation will come back with some great big number, then it will want to go to the internet, but it is a silent site. Unfortunately, we aren’t able to really tell what is going on.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used the solution for five to six years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No issues with stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No, but it doesn’t do cleanup at all. I have set to keep data for four months on some backups, then they are marked to be deleted, but never delete. Consequently, I run out of disk space, then I manually have to purge the backups from the management console. This feature has never worked.

How are customer service and technical support?

Very knowledgeable.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

This was our first solution.

How was the initial setup?

It was fairly straightforward.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is better than most.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Veeam. They seemed okay, but they didn’t do physical computers and I needed both.

What other advice do I have?

If you are looking to implement this product, "Do it."

Their support takes five days to open up a case.
Pros and Cons
    • "Acronis Backup isn't scalable at all."

    What needs improvement?

Acronis needs to improve several things. They need to improve storage, backup plans, and stability.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used Acronis Backup for the past two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    Acronis Backup is unstable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Acronis Backup isn't scalable at all.

How are customer service and support?

Acronis support is pathetic. It takes five days to open the case.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We've worked with a lot of products, including Microsoft and Nutanix. Out of all of them, the one I like is Nutanix. Many of our solutions are Microsoft products, and Nutanix recently launched a cloud solution.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Acronis Backup three out of 10.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises

It's possible to use the solution not only on-premise but also in some cloud environments

What is our primary use case?

I am using it for testing, to investigate the program.

    What is most valuable?

For me, the valuable feature is that they are looking forward at some cloud integrations and to bring in some of their solutions for Azure and other clouds. It's possible to use the solution not only on-premise but also in some cloud environments that have been growing lately.

They also have a very big knowledge base and support. If you don't know something or something goes wrong, you can always find yourself a solution or contact help and receive good consultation.

    What needs improvement?

They need to continue working on it to make it work more smoothly and faster.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I am satisfied with the stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

    Scalability is good.

How is customer service and technical support?

I have been satisfied with technical support.

    How was the initial setup?

The setup was average, not very hard but also not a one-click installation.

What other advice do I have?

it's better to search for a solution from among the top vendors. Acronis is one of them. In any environment you need a backup solution and protection for disaster recovery. You need to use a solution to back up your servers and Active Directory, etc. Acronis is quite a good solution for that.

The most important criteria when selecting a vendor are the vendor's reputation and the quality of the solution.

I agree with your product presentation and I would like to add some features that Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 has. It has bare-metal restoration, the user can restore the server copies, including user configurations, system state data, applications, network settings, and others to a new hard disk. Acronis has customizable backup schemes, it has included prepackaged backup schemes within its software. Another useful feature that Acronis has is outstanding reporting, from customizable e-mail alert notifications to a centralized dashboard that can display backup status for multiple systems on a single screen.

Complete backup & recovery solution for your network & desktop

    Valuable Features:

Acronis Backup & Recovery is an award winning software with multiple facilities. The most important thing is that it has an easy GUI based using console. You can schedule the software for a convenient time and data backup will be done automatically with a notification. You can also clone (Image) entire hard disks as well. Different types of backup facilities are available with the software like incremental backup, full backup, and differential backup. Acronic software does not provide only backup and restore facilities, but it also provides sync facilities between different computers on your network. It supports different types of hardware and operating system platforms (Windows & Linux). You can create an online backup outside of your network in a secure way.

    Room for Improvement:

The installation file consumes 1 GB of space on your hard disk. Restore processes fail sometimes if the file is corrupt. System performance slows down while the backup process is running from the network.

    Other Advice:

It’s a complete solution for data backup and recovery. It provides offline and online backup facilities. It’s available for your server and desktop as well.
