A tool helpful for dashboard creation and reporting
The area of improvement is related to the areas of application onboarding and instrumentation, where the product has certain shortcomings. Broadcom needs to work on application instrumentation and the onboarding-related part. With the tool, there is a very lengthy process to do the onboarding of an application. I don't know which version of the tool is currently running in the market. I use a very old version of the product, and I don't know what kind of features Broadcom has made available in the current release of the tool. If technical support related to the product is improved, considering what kind of product has been provided to users to ensure that the product is supported in an environment, then it would be great. Suppose there is a Java application in an environment, and it may be related to Java 5, Java 6, Java 7, or Java 8, and a user receives no technical specification related to what kind of version the application supports, including Java JDK 11 and Java JDK 17, it poses a challenge. The product does not provide details about which version of Java is supported, meaning such information related to the product is unavailable. The product's technical support is an area with certain shortcomings, where improvements are required. The technical support of the product is an area with certain shortcomings, where improvements are required. The aforementioned scenario is not just related to Java but also to all the application languages. The tool is required to build correct documentation related to its product and versions, explaining what kind of version is supported related to their onboarded applications, and it is not just related to Java but also to Python, .NET, Python.js, and PHP.

Doesn't require much custom coding and can run on different platforms, but the types of scripting files you can execute on it are limited
In terms of issues with Micro Focus SiteScope, some that we've run into were unintended, for example, extra executions of monitors and some false alerts when there were problems connecting to endpoints or there were issues with the application that sometimes resulted in false positives. We had a few issues with the way time zones were configured when the system time differed from the time indicated during the monitoring, but those were just little things that weren't too bad. As far as the limitations of Micro Focus SiteScope, the types of scripting files that can be executed are rather limited unless you go to some third-party plugins. These are the areas for improvement in the solution.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Crash analytics goes down to the level of code you need to check."
"Now, we know we have a problem, because there is a primary layer of alerting or metrics monitoring put in place, that is the good part."
"With the new feature CA Team Center is much easier to view the information of my user experience, with this unified vision, it was even practical for lay users to use the tool"
"We use it to create dashboards and executive view dashboards, so our higher up managers can take a look and see where our application status stands."
"Being able to pull in and merge the infrastructure and application data."
"Standard available reports provide us with an automatic insight into the top ten situations to watch. It would have been extremely difficult to program such a report ourselves, and to my knowledge no other competitor can match this functionality."
"We are using the on-premise and cloud versions of Broadcom DX Application Performance Management."
"I like that it gives you a wide range of data where you can see the application outage response from concurrent locations and the number of stalled jobs."
"Simplest tool for monitoring servers, web content, databases and other hardware. Its dashboard is really good."
"SiteScope has built-in flat file DB, hence it removes the dependency of an external DB for higher stability."
"There's no agent you need installed on the servers. In our environment, we have some servers out of our control so we cannot manage them. We use SiteScope to monitor the availability, the resources on the servers, etc. This allows us to do this job without installing agents so there's no need to take care of anything on the server."
"The tool has capabilities other than managing web-based applications, like URL Monitor and EPI Script. It is also easy to use the tool."
"It can monitor over a 100 technologies with built-in solution templates."
"Being able to create your monitors for monitoring your internal URLs and databases and other things like that is valuable."
"It's integrated with different monitoring tools, such as AppDynamics."
"Simple deployment: The deployment uses protocols such as NetBios, SSH, WMI, SNMP, which means that any device with any of these protocols will be monitored."

Cons

"With respect to SQL monitoring, it would be nice to have a little more information because it doesn't provide the full statement all of the time."
"Dashboards need to be improved in order to make them self-explanatory."
"They need to add support for new frameworks, or at least provide a broader guide/perspectives to add them to monitoring specific agents to retrieve metrics with thresholds as a reference to guide the customer as to where they must go to achieve this."
"We enountered stability issues. They were mitigated by performance tuning within infrastructure."
"The area of improvement is related to the areas of application onboarding and instrumentation, where the product has certain shortcomings."
"Technical support is slow to respond and also asks redundant questions."
"Broadcom DX Application Performance Management could improve its supportability to the current technologies and the end-to-end correlation feature should be done automatically without custom configurations. Additionally, there should not be any configuration changes to the client-side when deploying the solution."
"The product displays some graphics and sometimes we want to have some different metrics in the same graphic but it doesn't display in the same scale, so it's quite complicated to see the metrics. If the product would be able to manage a double scale, it would be perfect."
"You can use OpenText SiteScope for small or middle environments. But if you want to monitor a large environment, it is not scalable. If you can monitor a large environment with OpenText SiteScope, it can be a valuable product."
"Full application functionality available via the API. There are some functions you can perform managing monitors, that are only available through the UI."
"It should improve its integrations with various tools, especially service management tools."
"Direct integration with an SMS gateway for sending critical alerts to the support SME. This will help customer investing in third party middleware solutions for SMS."
"It may lack some features other products in the category have like more detailed transaction tracking."
"SiteScope isn't productive if you want to monitor RAM or if you want to monitor some URL."
"They need to offer better technical support, which, right now, is not helpful or responsive."
"Sometimes in a huge environment, I think the documentation does not provide the required calculations so you can't know what the required set up should be. You need to test."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is definitely expensive for what we get, but there isn't an alternate option at the moment."
"Negotiate a lot, but do not forget to buy the product because it is worth it."
"The pricing structure should be based on memory or CPU usage rather than the number of agents, as it makes the solution more expensive for us."
"Althougth it is a bit expensive, it is really worth it"
"The license for Broadcom DX Application Performance Management is annual. The licensing model could improve because there is not any limit to deploying the agent, there should be some limits on it."
"Pricing and licensing are not issues."
"Depends on the size of the product you need."
"Dynatrace is the most expensive of these tools followed by AppDynamics which is "medium-expensive." CA APM is a bit lower in price than either Dynatrace or AppDynanics... In my opinion, if you can afford it, go for AppDynamics instead of CA APM."
"The pricing or licensing cost for Micro Focus SiteScope is often bundled with other things, so the cost for each individual would be difficult to calculate. Pricing could be $2,000,000 a year. My company pays for technical support because it's part of the contract with Micro Focus SiteScope. You buy the licenses, but you're also paying for the support. With Nagios, it's much more bare-bones as far as paying for licenses and the software itself, and my company didn't have to use as much Nagios support yet in one or two years because there weren't too many problems using Nagios, and it's much more cost-effective, so that's one of the reasons why my company is migrating to Nagios from Micro Focus SiteScope."
"Licensing is a little steep."
"I rate the solution's pricing a six out of ten on a scale where one is cheap and ten is expensive."
"SiteScope licensing can be node based-or monitor-based. I would recommend for node-based licensing."
"The product's pricing should be lower since there are many open-source products that can do the same job with better user interfaces. The tool's pricing is yearly and you need to pay for support."
"Depending on your requirements, there are two licensing models available. A simple point model, or an endpoint model."
"When Micro Focus Voltage SiteScope has introduced approximately eight years ago and there was not very much competition making the price high. However, when comparing the price of Micro Focus Voltage SiteScope now to other tools, they should reduce the price. It is similar to a legacy tool at this point."
"You have to pay for their "solution templates". Other tools do not charge you for knowledge-based monitoring bundles."
