Streamlined integration and enhanced efficiency despite customization challenges
Pros and Cons
  • "SAP Business One is pretty streamlined, with tight integration and standard best practice flows."
  • "There are limitations around integrations."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for customer, inventory management, catalog management, supplier customer management, and financials.

How has it helped my organization?

There is some time saving and lower employee headcount, around 40% to 50%.

What is most valuable?

SAP Business One is pretty streamlined, with tight integration and standard best practice flows.

What needs improvement?

There are limitations around integrations. Third-party integrations require the expertise of a functional consultant, and customizations require some technical expertise.

Limitations in terms of the B2B commerce setup exist, and we're looking at a consultant to customize a solution. The MTG integration is not possible as it should be in the cloud, but it's on a hosted private server.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for about one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's stable as we go through the partners, so there's no direct support.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable for our purpose, however, there are limitations around integrations.

How are customer service and support?

We go through the partners, so we have no direct support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

There are other providers, such as NetSuite.

What about the implementation team?

We use implementation partners, so it wasn't our process.

What was our ROI?

It's a perpetual investment. In the long term, it is more cost-efficient than some of the cloud SaaS services in ERP available today.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is acceptable, and it is one of the lower-cost solutions.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Easy to deploy but needs to improve in the area of BI
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of the solution revolve around the fact that it is easy to deploy and scalable and is not resource-intensive."
  • "Improvements are required in the support for partner-delivery add-ons, functional graphs, user development, and BI since certain shortcomings exist in these areas."

What is our primary use case?

The company I currently work for has over 1,000 SAP Business One customers, so I am pretty sure it covers a large breadth of use cases.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution revolve around the fact that it is easy to deploy and scalable and is not resource-intensive. It is effective for small and medium-sized companies, predominantly in warehousing, distribution, trading, manufacturing, and discrete manufacturing. We have a bespoke product in the area of regulated beverages, including wineries, breweries, and distillers and it is all more of a SAP Business One add-ons.

What needs improvement?

Improvements are required in the support for partner-delivery add-ons, functional graphs, user development, and BI since certain shortcomings exist in these areas.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with SAP Business One.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a five out of ten. There are other solutions that are far more scalable than SAP Business One. SAP Business One is pretty much limited now because SAP is not really investing in the further expansion of the solution because it has other successful solutions right now.

My company deals with small and medium companies that operate in as low as 10,000,000 in revenue to multi-country or fairly large multi-million dollar organizations ranging from three-quarters of a million dollars to half a million dollars in revenue.

How are customer service and support?

With SAP Business One, support is mostly delivered by partners. SAP doesn't deliver direct support. Established partners, and many of the partners out there with 20 or 30 years of experience with SAP Business One, have some established practices in place. The issues that usually pop up in the tool aren't really easy. Everybody knows what to expect and what kind of issues can arise, and SAP has mechanisms to help the customers. I rate the technical support a seven to eight out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase is very straightforward. It has been done so many times that there are no areas to explore left in the process. Most implementers know what to do and what to expect from the tool.

Usually, one person is enough to take care of the deployment of the product. Maximum of two people can easily take care of the product's deployment phase, where one can look into the functional aspects like scopes, blueprinting, development deployment. If customizations or add-ons are required, then a technical resource would be slightly involved in the deployment process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In terms of the price, I wouldn't know exact numbers, but I feel the prices are at par with most ERPs. When I say ERP, I am not including accounting software. When I talk about complete ERP solutions and packages, the prices are at par with what SAP Business One offers.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

SAP S4/HANA is a much more comprehensive and complete ERP system, especially in terms of the functional breadth and depth compared to SAP Business One, while also being more scalable.

What other advice do I have?

If I speak about a feature in the tool that helps with financial management, I would say that of all the products I have ever worked on, used, or implemented, the finance part is pretty much the same in all ERPs and bookkeeping software tools. Finance is a regulated thing. It has to generate financial statements related to all the accounts. All financial management systems will look into the ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.

Generally the tool has two models. If the tool's in-house model is opted, then just one person is needed to maintain the product as an ERP administrator. If it is through a partner, then we usually have managed services, so you get access to a whole bunch of resources, technical, functional, finance, manufacturing, supply chain, or resources that you can have as part of the managed services contract.

My company does not use much of AI with SAP Business One since it is pretty much manual now. It's still pretty much manual for business process enhancements and it still requires more of a consultative approach with more of a human touch. With SAP S4/HANA, there is a process navigator, process data mining tool that does help users since with the use of AI it provides answers to their questions.

Recommendations are subjective to the requirements of the users. I would not recommend SAP Business One to a financial services institution or a bank. I would most definitely recommend it to a small family-owned business with about 20,000,000 of revenue, and that too in the area of discrete manufacturing.

I rate the tool a seven out of ten.

Provides good customized reports and third-party integration
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features of the solution are reporting, a dashboard, customized reports, and third-party integration."
  • "SAP Business One would be a great product if more customization is available."

What is our primary use case?

SAP Business One is a very easy solution for SMBs (small and midsize businesses). SAP Business One is a good product for clients moving from the ERP to standard ERP.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features of the solution are reporting, a dashboard, customized reports, and third-party integration. The other good features of the solution are Excel reporting and Power BI integration.

What needs improvement?

Compared to SAP S/4HANA, the solution has user limitations. SAP Business One would be a great product if more customization is available.

Many clients rely on Apple products, and SAP Business One does not provide any Apple-based solutions. They are only able to connect on reliable browser access, but clients want applications like Windows. SAP Business One should provide Apple-based solutions.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP Business One for seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the solution an eight out of ten for stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the solution a nine out of ten for scalability.

How are customer service and support?

The technical support from SAP is really good every time.

How was the initial setup?

The solution's initial setup is simple and not complicated. Everything is well documented, and the reporting is well maintained by SAP.

What about the implementation team?

It took me only nine and a half hours to deploy the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

On a scale from one to ten, where one is expensive and ten is cheap, I rate the solution's pricing a seven out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

The solution's main competitor is Microsoft Dynamics 365. SAP Business One is a great product. If a client does not understand SAP Business One, they can choose Microsoft Dynamics 365.

What other advice do I have?

The solution's reporting and analytics features are helpful for a quick understanding of the margin and a quick overview. The solution provides many IoT-based integrations. Generally, SAP Business One is capable of running manufactured machines from integrated services.

I suggest using a hybrid model if the client has more than 450 users. If the client has 50 to 100 users, they must go with the cloud version.

I recently implemented integration for a big client. They have integrated with Amazon, AWS, IoT, and third-party end-user analytics services. All are SAP-certified services. SAP Business One does not come with total availability. Sometimes, it needs a two-hour downtime.

I would recommend SAP Business One to other users because it’s a great application.

Overall, I rate the solution ten out of ten.

Designed for small and medium-sized enterprises
Pros and Cons
    • "There are limitations of SAP Business One. It's a complex topic, and exploring options like SAP HANA is challenging at the moment. Understanding the limitations of ERP requires thorough research. I suggest conducting some preliminary investigations into ERP products before making a decision. We chose SAP Business One as it caters to SMEs like ours, acknowledging and accepting its limitations. A tool to manage business-related activities online with an easy initial setup phase
    Pros and Cons
    • "The initial setup of the product seems to be good."
    • "There is a need to make multiple changes in the code to make a few changes in any module of the product."

What is our primary use case?

SAP Business One is a tool that helps me manage my business online.

    What is most valuable?

The valuable feature of SAP Business One is that it provides more visibility when a person uses it on AWS over an on-premises version.

    What needs improvement?

There are certain areas of concern in SAP Business One, and I feel that to address them, I need to prepare a document. In SAP Business One, there are many things that we need to code for certain custom things in the product, which is very prevalent when it comes to the product's QM module. There is a need to make multiple changes in the code to make a few changes in any module of the product. The aforementioned aspects of the solution can be considered for improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using SAP Business One on AWS for six months. I am an end-user of the product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Around six people use the product in my company.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of the product seems to be good.

The solution is deployed on the cloud services offered by AWS.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Though I cannot specifically state whether SAP Business One on AWS is a cheap or expensive product, I can surely say that it is a manageable tool from a cost perspective.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

My company chose SAP Business One on AWS after I went through the many available options in the market, like Microsoft Dynamics. During my evaluations, I found SAP Business One on AWS to be a more valuable product than Microsoft Dynamics.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the overall product around an eight to eight and a half out of ten.

The product is very user-friendly, has an easy-to-use interface, and ROI can be achieved in less time
    Pros and Cons
    • "The product is very user-friendly."
    • "Analytics could be much better."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution for finance, supply chain, and production.

    What is most valuable?

The product is very user-friendly. It comes with a package. It provides the basic configuration for all functionalities and decent analytics capability. It has an easy-to-use interface. The basic configuration covers the basics of all modules. The scalability of the tool is helpful. We had to do some customizations, but we did not face any challenges.

The tool's performance is very good since the data volumes are not very large. We're targeting a specific target group. The implementation timelines are very reasonable. The pricing is effective. We were able to achieve the expected outcome for the business much faster. The cloud-native features of AWS have contributed well to the solution's efficiency. The integration is much better. The disaster recovery and data backup features work fine.

    What needs improvement?

Analytics could be much better. The solution must provide a lot of options so that the analytics dashboard looks much better. The vendor must bring in more analytics features. Currently, the analytics features are decent but not great. The production modules and HR components must be improved. Production planning and detailed warehouse management features must be improved.

While migrating to AWS, we faced certain issues with the API integration and the configuration of the add-ons. We thought changes wouldn't be required, but some changes were required. We also faced some challenges with the compatibility of the patches. The additional functionalities must be more flexible and scalable.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    The tool’s stability is fine.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is not highly scalable. It has limitations in functionality. It is scalable, but only up to a certain extent.

    How was the initial setup?

We implement the tool for customers. It is effective. We can configure the business processes much faster for medium-sized businesses. Switching from Excel-based manual work or legacy systems to SAP was fast, smooth, and easy. The deployment is straightforward. The time required for implementation is reasonable.

    What was our ROI?

The ROI cycle is faster than that of other products. We can achieve ROI in less time. It is much faster, decent, and better. We have seen a lot of improvements.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The tool has better pricing models than S/4 HANA. The licensing can be monthly or yearly, depending on customer requirements. We must pay for support additionally.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.
