We implement it for customers, and we use the software internally for process management and inventory management.
Enterprise Solutions Architect at a computer software company with 201-500 employees
Is annually updated and enhanced
Pros and Cons
- "SAP is already working on improvements by doing annual releases with enhancements."
- "More integrations and built-in integrations with other environments and products are needed."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
SAP is already working on improvements by doing annual releases with enhancements.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see more integrations and built-in integrations with other environments and products. Sometimes, we have a product that needs something, and we would need to replace a feature or model in the system with other models outside.
In this case, we would like the system to be more flexible, more component-based. Then, we would be able to take one component and leave the others. We won't have to buy in bulk to benefit from the product. We can select features and pay for those.
Technical support could be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been working with this product for almost 7 years.

How are customer service and support?
As for technical support, it depends on how SAP defines the level of the ticket. Sometimes, the ticket is very important to us, while from the perspective of SAP, its of low or medium priority. This makes things difficult for us.
When the ticket is of medium or low priority from the perspective of SAP, it takes more time to solve it.
So, when we have product limitations or something's not working, we would need to help the customers find a solution or workaround.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is a little bit complex. In the beginning, it takes some time for the business consultants to prepare the environment and set up everything. Usually, if you give the consultants the appropriate time to do the setup correctly the first time, everything will go smoothly.
What other advice do I have?
On a scale from one to ten, I would rate SAP ERP at eight.

A robust product, but it is expensive and the technical support is below average
Pros and Cons
- "This is a robust and feature-rich solution."
- "The user interface needs to be improved."
What is our primary use case?
My primary use case is Enterprise Resource Planning.
What is most valuable?
This is a robust and feature-rich solution.
What needs improvement?
The user interface needs to be improved.
Licensing is expensive and should be reduced.
For how long have I used the solution?

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is quite good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have between 18 and 20 people who regularly use this ERP.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have had experiences with technical support that are both good and bad. Overall, I would say that they are below average. Their support is not clear, and furthermore, even a priority ticket takes a lot of time to resolve.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is complex. It took us about a year and a half to fully deploy.
What about the implementation team?
We called a consultant to assist us with implementation and deployment, although we have an internal team that handles the maintenance.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This is a costly product.
What other advice do I have?
The cloud option for this solution is quite good.
I would rate this solution a six out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Transportation Planning Responsible with 10,001+ employees
Provides us with an efficient, real-time warehouse management system
Pros and Cons
- "Although you can use SAP as a Warehouse Management System, and you don’t need any other program for that purpose, it is not enough as a Transportation Management System. You need another program which is integrated with SAP."
What is our primary use case?
I use SAP for logistics transactions. I test SAP transactions to make sure they work correctly and train colleagues who are SAP users.

As our Warehouse Management System, SAP efficiently manages our warehouse operations in real-time.

The most valuable features are its worldwide reach.
What needs improvement?
Although you can use SAP as a Warehouse Management System, and you don’t need any other program for that purpose, it is not enough as a Transportation Management System. You need another program which is integrated with SAP. I think this is an area where SAP should improve. It should be work as a Transportation Management System.

Network Manager at a manufacturing company with 501-1,000 employees
Top rated ERP, but not very user friendly and tech support is lacking.
Valuable Features:
SAP ERP provides business efficiency to the basic business functions of finance, inventory, production, customer service, sales all in one database. Is designed for middle and large size companies. The database can be designed for specific industries, and there is the ability to choose features specific to your companies needs. There is an allowance for multiple company databases to be combined into one, which can reduce company costs, and reduce data redundancy. SAP ERP is top rated in functionality compared to other ERP systems that we also evaluated.
Room for Improvement:
The price of SAP ERP is greater than other companies with the equivalent product. Technical support is not as efficient as our company would like. It is very difficult to know when upgrades or patches are available. SAP ERP is not as user friendly for new computer users.

Project and Service delivery Manager at a tech services company with 11-50 employees
The biggest ERP system globally that has great features and can do pretty much everything
Pros and Cons
- "If you are well versed in SAP, the initial setup is pretty simple."
- "Technical support could be better."
What is our primary use case?
It's the biggest and the most prominent ERP system in business, globally, and it can be used for almost anything. This is one of the biggest advantages of SAP - having so many modules and supporting so many different industrial sectors. Therefore, it would be hard to find what the SAP can't do.
What is most valuable?
The solution is the biggest ERP system globally and can do pretty much anything.
With all the complexity, there isn't any tool that is so complex and offers so many features as the SAP does those days.
If you are well versed in SAP, the initial setup is pretty simple.
What needs improvement?
It's pretty pricey for the functionality.
In certain barriers, for example, CRM, Salesforce can do better than the analog tools in SAP. It's not naturally grown from its own development of the SAP and a lot of products or solutions are bought in or purchased by SAP. I'm using different technologies due to this.
A major problem of SAP these days is it's not homogenous. It's a conglomerate of many different solutions and systems, which are not very well integrated.
The initial setup can be difficult if your team is unfamiliar with the product.
Technical support could be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've worked with the solution on and off for 15 years. I didn't spend the last 15 years just implementing SAP ERP. I did all other kinds of projects as well. That said, I've worked with the product for a while.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I was doing working with three different companies for the past 15 years as well as a couple of external clients. I've used it across a few different industries.
How are customer service and technical support?
Technical support definitely can be faster. We have had a couple of tickets in solution support opened for a long, long time without proper or satisfactory response. We're not 100% happy with the level of support we receive.
How was the initial setup?
The setup complexity depends on how strong of a team you have. If you have enough experience, then no major problem with implementation. For the cloud solutions, now you don't even really install. You just get your own tenant developed or created by the SAP itself.
The size of the technical team you will need depends on your business scale. You can do it with a small team of two or three people if it's a small implementation. You can also deal with the thousands of mandates if it's a complex enterprise implementation. That said, it's the same or very similar with any other tool as the complexity is not driven by the tool itself. Rather, it is the business processes of a customer.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It's definitely not the cheapest system to license and run. It could be cheaper.
Typically, they offer yearly licensing agreements.
What other advice do I have?
I'm not only an end-user. I'm a project manager who has implemented it in the past.
The solution can be deployed both on-premises and on the cloud.
I would rate the solution at an eight out of ten.
I would recommend the solution to other users and organizations.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Next generation tool with many beneficial integrated modules
Pros and Cons
- "The solution has a lot of good integrated modules."
- "It's difficult to code; structured language is difficult."
What is our primary use case?
I'm the head of IT and we are customers of SAP ERP.
What is most valuable?
This is a great product with a lot of good integrated modules. It's a fine product in terms of integrity, I have a lot of praise for the SAP. This is a next generation tool that has been greatly improved.
What needs improvement?
It's difficult to code, the structured language is difficult and could be improved. In my view, the article financials could be better.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been using this solution for around nine years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Scalability is not really relevant in this type of product.
How are customer service and technical support?
I've experienced both the functional side and the technical side. They are good, I have explored a few things about the ABAP Dictionary and technologies. The structured language could be simplified.
How was the initial setup?
If you have good resources and quality people who understand the business and procedures, the implementation is not a big challenge.
What other advice do I have?
I rate this solution a nine out of 10.

SAP All in One vs. Oracle E-Business Suite vs. Microsoft Axapta
We put together an ERP evaluation for 3 proposed solutions.
The top 3 packages considered for detailed evaluation – SAP All in One, Oracle E-Business Suite, Microsoft Axapta. The Key Criteria used for Evaluation are as follows:
A. Functional Fit to meet current Business Requirements
B. Flexibility to support Future Enhancements
C. Project Implementation and Support
Functional Fit to meet current Business Requirements:

Utility tracking - all available except for Period end allocation to batches during month's end which is unavailable for both Oracle and Axapta.
Integration of different modules - Unavailable for Oracle.
Cost Accounting/Drill down capabilities of reports - Not available for Oracle.
Language compatibility - available in all three solutions.
Production reporting, in terms of operation-wise reporting, is available in all three solutions.

Vice President at a tech services company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Planning that can model well for specific industries but may be overkill for easier processes
Pros and Cons
- "It meets our requirements for what we need it to do in the manufacturing industry."
- "It is a little difficult to use."
- "It was not designed to service all industries."
What is our primary use case?
It meets our requirements for a product to help us integrate and track business requirements and processes. Within the nature of our business, it meets our requirements for what we need it to do.
What is most valuable?
SAP ERP has a solution for all our requirements. That is the only way I can put it because the evaluation was done by somebody else at our company many years back. What the product delivers kind of meets our requirements. That is the most valuable feature.
What needs improvement?
The biggest issue with the solution is that it could be a little more user-friendly.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using SAP ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) for at least 10 years, but actually for as many as 15 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
SAP ERP is a stable solution. We do not have trouble with crashes, bugs, and glitches.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
SAP ERP is scalable. Our current user base is maybe around 1,000 people. We should be able to increase that at will if we have the need.
What other advice do I have?
I do not think that SAP ERP fits perfectly to all industries. You have got to be careful in choosing it or other solutions. SAP is mostly good for manufacturing. It is good for certain sectors of the industry and works in our case, but it is not for every type of business.
People do not have to do a lot of preparation before bringing the product onboard such as reading a lot of documentation. Mostly it is better that they see demos and project how it really works in their environment before they go for it because it is not user-friendly. If the business is within the service industry and service provision is the kind of environment they work in, I do not think I would suggest SAP ERP as a solution. If the potential client wants to use it for retail, again I would not suggest it because it is far too complicated for what they need to do and there are better solutions for that use case. It is typically good for manufacturing and those kinds of core product development industries.
On a scale from one to ten (where one is the worst and ten is the best), I would rate SAP ERP as around an eight-out-of-ten overall. For me the only thing that plays against it is that it could be more user friendly, that is the biggest issue I am looking at.

I would agree that SAP is top rated ERP solution and I would also agree that for some users it is not user freindly. System Tailoring is importent factor which can make the system user friendly. There is lot of improvement is required (as far as my access is concerned) in doucmentation. Every transaction produce new document. It is ok if it is at backend but frontend it is not helpful. The return processes can be improved much.
