Stable, scalable, and useful for preventing the use of unauthorized software, but needs better pricing policy and implementation for Windows devices
Pros and Cons
  • "All features are useful. It is useful for preventing the use of unauthorized software on corporate-owned devices. It provides an option to lock the devices for unauthorized software. The devices can only be used under the supervision of the device manager."
  • "The pricing policy of SOTI is not stable. You buy it today at one price, and the following year, it becomes something like 5% or 7% higher. From my point of view, SOTI is a little bit weak in terms of implementation on the new Windows 10 devices, and they have to work on this. It can't compete with Intune and other solutions when it comes to Windows implementation. It almost doesn't work with iOS. It works well with Android."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider, and we provide the SOTI solution for our customers. We have around 40,000 devices deployed on it. Normally, it is deployed on-cloud, but we also have some on-premises implementations.

It is mainly used for supervising devices such as Android and Windows mobile devices. It is used for asset management and configuration management as well as for authorizing the use of specific software in a device.

What is most valuable?

All features are useful. It is useful for preventing the use of unauthorized software on corporate-owned devices. It provides an option to lock the devices and specify authorized or not software. The device configuration is then used under the supervision of the device admin.

What needs improvement?

The pricing policy of SOTI is not stable.

It's work well with iOS and Android.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have five years of experience with this solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The platform is stable. There are no issues with the stability of the platform.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. We are satisfied with its scalability because we can start at 100 devices. I have some customers who have 10 or 15 times more devices over time, and the platform is responding quite well. The service behind is on the cloud, and it is quite good.

How are customer service and support?

When you subscribe to enterprise support or high-level support, they respond well.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy for us because we have a specialist engineer. Otherwise, it is not so user friendly. You need an experienced engineer and some knowledge to deploy this solution, especially if it is a complex configuration.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Its pricing policy is not stable. The licensing is on a one-yearly, two-yearly, or three-yearly basis. There is no monthly fee.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution. We are a solution provider, and we recommend the SOTI solution each time we have a request. It is a stable product, and there is no real technical issue.

I would rate SOTI MobiControl a seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Private Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

User-friendly, great support, and the remote control and geo-fencing capabilities are helpful
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are remote control and geo-fencing."
  • "Adding more features for iOS devices would be an improvement."

What is our primary use case?

We manage approximately 200 devices that are used in inventory management. This includes RF guns, as well as small tablets where you can capture signatures.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are remote control and geo-fencing.

The interface is user-friendly, once you get used to it.

What needs improvement?

Adding more features for iOS devices would be an improvement.

I found that there's a learning curve to kind of poke around and get used to the dashboard. Otherwise, it is pretty user-friendly.

For how long have I used the solution?

WE have been using SOTI MobiControl for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have had some bugs in the time that we have used it, but their support group has been helpful in resolving some of those issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We have grown over time. Initially, we had maybe 100 licenses, and we have grown to 250 licenses. I think that next year, we'll probably reach 400 licenses.

We have a couple of dozen people who use it.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is great, and we have found them to be helpful.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It took three or four months to deploy.

What about the implementation team?

Our deployment was completed by an in-house team.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have always evaluated other options just to see how other people are using SOTI and MobiControl, as well as to see what's new out there. There is always a question of whether we should stick with it, or should we be looking at something else.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, this is a good product and I recommend it.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Offers thousands of features, has a straightforward installation and is stable
Pros and Cons
  • "The installation is very straightforward."
  • "It would be helpful if the product offered more integration and more features around the iOS and macOS platforms."

What is our primary use case?

We can use the solution for everything. We are compliant with everything - whether it's MDM, EMM, EUM, whether it's for managing applications, concepts, access, et cetera. SOTI Mobicontrol has a part of the answer for all of these requirements.

What is most valuable?

Mobicontrol offers hundreds, if not thousands, of features on the same platform. Everything is available and on the platform and covers so many possible use cases.

Mobicontrol is a very large platform for managing devices. It's cross-platform, and therefore you can use it with everything from Android to Windows Mobile, to Linux, to IoT, et cetera. We can manage everything with ease.

There is remote control capability, which is very straightforward and you can access it without any configuration. We have hardware control over the device as if it's in the palm of your hands.

You have different options for application deployments, whether it's directly using a package from the Play Store, or from the App Store.

The installation is very straightforward.

The platform is very user friendly. It's the best user experience there is on the market at this moment. That's my understanding based on the feedback I get from our customers here in the region. We had many customers using other solutions and they switched to SOTI Mobicontrol.

What needs improvement?

There are complexities around networking and how to configure Mobicontrol into a network with the security requirements, et cetera.

SOTI is currently making changes to the platform to simplify it further for an even better user experience.

It would be helpful if the product offered more integration and more features around the iOS and macOS platforms.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been dealing with the solution since 2016. It's been about 4 years at this point. It's been a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is very stable. From my side, I haven't heard of clients having any issues. It's reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Whether the client chooses a cloud or on-premises deployment model, they can scale it. That is not a problem at all.

Worldwide, the solution has more than 20,000 users.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is worldwide and is available 24/7. It's available in all regions and in different languages. We have also different options, such as standard support or enterprise support with a technical account manager. Each customer can choose the options that best fit their requirements. So far, we've been satisfied with the level of service on offer.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is very straight forward if it's on-premises. Many customers are doing the installation by themselves due to the fact that it is so easy. The complex part is more about networking and how they can configure Mobicontrol in their network with the security requirements and everything. However, if you are talking about the installation itself, it's straightforward.

If we have all the different teams available, for example, for security and infrastructure, we can deploy this solution in one day. It really depends, as in some structures we need a security team just to open a network. It can take days, or hours to confirm and validate this point. It really depends on the customer and its structure. However, if we have everything available, all ports open, we have the infrastructure available for it, we can do this in one day at most.

Usually, there is one person from the SOTI side that can assist.

What about the implementation team?

If a customer would like, they can have an engineer from SOTI assist in the implementation process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing works on a subscription basis.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a representative of SOTI Mobicontrol in my region. I'm representing the sales engineering departments in the region, in Africa.

We use both cloud and on-premises deployment models.

I would recommend the solution to other organizations.

Overall, I would rate the solution at a nine out of ten.

Allows me to manage my devices remotely, and the vendor provides strong product support
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable feature is the fact that I can manage my devices remotely."
  • "We're deploying an application upgrade. We can't do more than three or four devices at once, and we don't know if the device actually received the upgrade. There's no indicator saying it's 100 percent complete until everything is done. Let's say I work East to West. I work on the East Coast and I want to confirm it was done with the upgrades in that region. I wouldn't know until I actually went into it. There's no indicator telling me that it's complete."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for mobile management of tablets and PDDs.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the fact that I can manage my devices remotely.

What needs improvement?

We're deploying an application upgrade. We can't do more than three or four devices at once, and we don't know if the device actually received the upgrade. There's no indicator saying it's 100 percent complete until everything is done. Let's say I work East to West. I work on the East Coast and I want to confirm it is done with the upgrades in that region. I won't know until I actually go into it. There's no indicator telling me that it's complete.

For how long have I used the solution?

Three to five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is fine.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We haven't encountered any issues with scalability, as long as we meet the minimum requirements on the server side. If you want to scale up, they're able to do it and support is there. They'll help you out through the process.

How are customer service and technical support?

It's fine. We have Enterprise Support, so they're always there for us.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Our company has always only used SOTI.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was fine. The only time we actually need any assistance is when we're doing an upgrade.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing is fine. We're notified a few months prior to renewals.

What other advice do I have?

I give it a ten out of ten because it does what we need it to do. The support is there. And even though certain items are now end-of-life, the support is still there. They're fully aware of letting us know ahead of time if there will be no more engineering behind a particular product. And even if there is no more development on that product, they still support the product for us.

Simple to set up with good visibility and remote access features
Pros and Cons
  • "The most valuable features are visibility and remote access."
  • "There is room for improvement when it comes to the ability to customize devices and choosing what information goes onto them."

What is our primary use case?

This solution is installed on all of our devices in the current work-from-home scenario.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are visibility and remote access.

There is a built-in antivirus, although it is not currently available for Windows.

What needs improvement?

Hopefully, the anti-virus will be available for Windows in the future.

There is room for improvement when it comes to the ability to customize devices and choosing what information goes onto them.

For how long have I used the solution?

We are currently evaluating SOTI MobiControl as a proof of concept.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a pretty stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is good. Everybody in our company will be using it, which is a couple of hundred people.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have had experience with technical support and we are satisfied with it.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

This is the first product of this type that we have used.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is fairly simple. It took us about two weeks to develop a package and roll it out to a set number of devices.

What about the implementation team?

We completed our deployment through an integrator.

There is a team of three of us who are responsible for maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We looked at the other offerings that were on the market and chose this one for our proof of concept. We chose it because it is a standalone product and it seems better in terms of granularity. We are happy with it and plan to expand our usage.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, this is a pretty good product and I like that it is standalone. When you look at other offerings from vendors such as Microsoft and Google, they are built-in. This might initially appear cheaper but they lack a little bit in terms of granularity.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud

The usability of the platform is a valuable feature. Support for Windows Phone 8.1 is needed however.

What is most valuable?

  • Usability of the platform
  • Integration with special APIS for Android.
  • Remote Control in Android +
  • Scripts and Packages
  • Remote view for iOs
  • Adhoc Reports

How has it helped my organization?

  • Update of the apps using silence installation
  • Applying policies that makes up the productivity of the users
  • Share documents
  • Locate devices.

What needs improvement?

  • Support for Windows Phone 8.1
  • Improve time to market

For how long have I used the solution?

3 years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

No issues encountered.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No issues encountered.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No issues encountered.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Very good.

Technical Support:

Very Good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

No.

What about the implementation team?

Through a vendor team. Very Good

What was our ROI?

The ROI is US$4 for each US$1 invested.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The original setup cost was US$3K on training, licenses and hosting.

The day to day cost its around US$2.5 per device monthly.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated, 3 years ago, Afaria, Airwatch and Soti. Soti had an excellent relation between price and quality.

What other advice do I have?

Understand the devices that can support Android or Android Plus. There are devices that are present in our market but not in the North American, so the support for some Android devices sometimes are poor.

After that, the relation price - quality should be your next decision maker, including the support that the manufacturer can provide you.

Good solution, however features for Android need to be improved.

What is most valuable?

  1. File Sync Rules
  2. Registry editor for Windows
  3. Scripting
  4. Remote control

How has it helped my organization?

Actually, that is the main support tool used in BAT by L1 to support are mobile users.
I cannot say anything about improvement cause we started to use that when we change the sales model for direct and implement mobile systems for Sales Reps. For sure it gives a very big value for our support quality.

An example lockdown menu for Motorola WM 6.5 devices:

What needs improvement?

There are a lot of things which can be done for Android devices support. There are no features now to deploy settings for already installed applications in Android's. Mobi should have also access to all of "root" user files on device which will also help which application settings deployment. For sure there should be also some features to check on all devices size of chosen file or maybe CRC sum.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started to use MobiControl in May 2013.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

Sometimes I reached problems with big file deployments. From time to time when I need to synchronize files bigger than ~100Mb and synchronization crashes in the middle it will not continue at next schedule and files will not reach device correctly. Second thing is packages deployment with included installation which is running pretty slow. Instead of that I use file sync rules and scripting which is much better.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Haven't encountered stability issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Not to big but when I wanted to deploy some files on couple devices which where connected to a small router they where started to disconnecting for Mobi. There was no clear requirements in the documentation about how big link capacity should be per one device.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

I haven't contacted them.

Technical Support:

Technical support in SOTI is not to advanced. They are not stubborn in problem solving. If they know something from their knowledge base they will send some explanations but if not you are staying alone with your problem.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Did not use any other MDM.

How was the initial setup?

It was pretty simple.

What about the implementation team?

I implemented that by my self. I did not use help of anyone.

What was our ROI?

That was not an investment at all. Just a tool to manage some mobile devices so it will be hard to calculate "return".

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

It is a global solution for BAT so I did not evaluate any others.

What other advice do I have?

Collect your requirements before you will buy it. It is pretty expensive for MDM and you need to be sure that you will not be disappointed after attempting implementation.
