Delivery manager at a computer software company with 201-500 employees
Easy to deploy mobile device management solution; agile, stable, and scalable product
Pros and Cons
- "Agile and easy to deploy MDM solution that covers the maximum number of policies. Stable, scalable, and with knowledgeable technical support."
- "What would make this product better is adding more security policies and features in the next upgrade."
What is our primary use case?
We're using Microsoft Intune for MDM (mobile device management).
It's also used for securing devices. This solution also lets you access your corporate data on mobile devices. You can secure and ensure that whatever data you're accessing and using from mobile devices is in a secure channel, that the data is between your end user and your cloud provider.
There are certain policies you can set up, that can go on both the device level and application level.
What is most valuable?
What I like most about Microsoft Intune is that it's agile and easy to deploy. I also like that it covers the maximum number of policies.
What needs improvement?
Microsoft Intune is doing well. They're adding endpoints, so it's good that they're covering that, and they're more stable. What I'd like to see in their next upgrade is more in the context of today's security policies and what's needed, for them to keep adding features based on that, e.g. boosting security, so they can keep on adding security features, and that is the best they can do.
For how long have I used the solution?
We've been deploying Microsoft Intune to customers for four years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Microsoft Intune is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I find Microsoft Intune scalable.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support for Microsoft Intune was knowledgeable.
How was the initial setup?
The setup for this solution was straightforward. It was quick and it was easy, but it would still depend on the policies.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
You have to pay for a Microsoft Intune license. It's a user-based subscription. You can go for a monthly or a yearly payment. It's up to the customer.
What other advice do I have?
We have the maximum number of clients using Microsoft Intune. For deployment and maintenance, it depends on the customers and the number of devices they have, and the policies, e.g. they can have one, two, or three resources for deploying and maintaining this solution.
I'm recommending Microsoft Intune to people who want to start using it. They can go for it for one reason: the Microsoft ecosystem. My advice to people who are looking into implementing this solution is for them to know first what they want to achieve from it, before they make their decision.
My rating for Microsoft Intune is eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

Senior Solutions Architect at RTS Cloud AB
Stable, easy to deploy, and easy to find technicians who understand the technology
Pros and Cons
- "At the moment, Autopilot is the most valuable feature."
- "The main disadvantage seen today is regarding Linux clients. We have a lot of development resources that have Linux on their clients, and we can't manage them on the same platform, as we do with other clients such as macOS and Windows. So, it should have support for Linux clients. It should also have better support for macOS."
What is our primary use case?
I'm a solution architect. When I put up a new solution for managing devices, I prefer to put it on Microsoft Intune.
What is most valuable?
At the moment, Autopilot is the most valuable feature.
What needs improvement?
The main disadvantage seen today is regarding Linux clients. We have a lot of development resources that have Linux on their clients, and we can't manage them on the same platform, as we do with other clients such as macOS and Windows. So, it should have support for Linux clients. It should also have better support for macOS.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been familiar with it since it was released.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
It depends on the technology for which you ask them for support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are also working with VMware Workspace ONE. When comparing these two products, I prefer Intune.
How was the initial setup?
It is simple. It is easier than easy.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
It is reasonable. When you have Microsoft 365 E3 or E5 license, it is already licensed in that license. So, you could say it is free.
What other advice do I have?
It is quite easy to get people who understand the technology. For other platforms, at least in Sweden, there are not so many technicians who understand the technology.
I would rate it an eight out of 10.

Keeps integrity of standard deployments, scalable, and straightforward installation
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable features are the ones that make sure that the deployment is of a standard operating system and the Zero Touch deployment, which is very useful. This allows users to have an out of box experience."
- "There is improvement needed in integrating with the installed Office solutions versions, such as Office 2019. The Office 365 integrates without a problem."
What is our primary use case?
We use the solution for the deployment of the Windows 10 laptops and devices, and mobile device management of Android and iOS devices.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable features are the ones that make sure that the deployment is of a standard operating system and the Zero Touch deployment, which is very useful. This allows users to have an out of box experience.
What needs improvement?
There is improvement needed in integrating with the installed Office solutions versions, such as Office 2019. The Office 365 integrates fine.
While using the solution, you have to test and validate a lot. This is not really a solution issue but more of a configuration issue but still worthy of noting.
We have experienced an issue while deploying a Windows 10 machine, once you get the user profile applications installed, it does not always integrate well with third-party multi-factor authentication solutions. This is something that can be improved in the future.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using the solution for the last year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is reliable. However, it depends on the stability of your network and the internet connectivity.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have not had the chance to fully test the scalability because, although it is an enterprise solution, the organizations that I am working for tend not to have a large-scale, full-blown deployment at once of all the Windows 10 or mobile devices.
We plan to increase the usage of the solution. We have a number of my customers that are just starting with the solution, one is only doing the Windows 10 devices, the other one is only doing mobile device management. We have some clients that have it installed but it is not being fully used yet.
How was the initial setup?
The installation was straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is a license needed for this solution and it is either included in one of the enterprise license agreements. Microsoft licensing is a mathematical institute, it could be quite complex. We tend to ask specialized organizations to research what the most profitable way it would be for us to use licenses in the organizations.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did evaluate other solutions before we selected this one.
What other advice do I have?
Those who want to implement this solution have to ask themselves a few questions.
How do you introduce an additional security layer within my organization? If it is concerning the devices that you are using? Think big, act small, start with the smaller issues that you are having and make sure that the bigger picture stays within reach. Start with either mobile device management, or either Windows 10 deployment on laptops and PCs.
Make sure that you also have security governance because otherwise, you can introduce millions and millions of features and options but it still has to be a good user experience for the people that have to use these devices. If you fully block and fully restrict the devices, then it will not be a good user experience for the people that are actually in the field. There are actions that have to be done due to security and also by means of user experience optimization and security.
I rate Microsoft Intune an eight out of ten.

Technical Lead-Infrastructure Operations at a manufacturing company with 10,001+ employees
Autopilot is a great bonus as is the real-time feature
Pros and Cons
- "Remote Wipe and Autopilot is one of the best features."
- "Lacking ability to leverage more iOS device management internally."
What is our primary use case?
The use case for this solution varies depending on the user's requirement. Some are only interested in MDM, while others are interested in managing Windows plus Mac. It really depends. We are partners and provide on-prem, cloud and hybrid services to our customers. I'm tech lead infrastructure operations.
What is most valuable?
Lately I've been working on the Remote Wipe and Autopilot. Autopilot is one of the best features because we can use it during remote migration. It especially helps in this pandemic situation where we don't need any end-user computing engineer support. If someone wants to remix a machine, we can initiate it remotely.
What needs improvement?
An improvement would be if we were able to leverage more iOS device management internally. My goal is to manage all the tools in one centralized tool. Intune does 30 percent of Mac management, but if it could have complete management including patching and automating for Mac devices, that would be good.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using this solution for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is a scalable solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have been trying to contact technical support but haven't been able to reach anyone. I have a couple of questions to which I haven't been able to get any answers.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is pretty straightforward.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The cost is fair but it would be helpful if they would segregate the licenses. There are a lot of features that many of our customers don't need but have to pay for because it comes as a bundle package and we're unable to exclude anything that is not necessary.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I also work with Jamf Pro but you can't compare the two because Jamf Pro doesn't have real-time features and it doesn't do most of the things that Intune does.
What other advice do I have?
If a customer is looking for a macOS solution, I would for sure recommend Jamf Pro. If it is for Windows and macOS in a combined environment, then I would recommend Intune for managing it. The consideration is based on the customer's macOS family, based on how many users they have. If they have 100 users, then we can still manage it through Intune. If it's a complex environment, for sure we'd need Jamf Pro.
I would rate this solution an eight out of 10.

Managing Consultant at a tech services company with 11-50 employees
Transparently enforces compliance policies and works well, but the initial setup requires user intervention
Pros and Cons
- "The biggest thing for us is enforcing logins only from devices that are managed by Intune."
- "Once it's configured it is unobtrusive, but it does take some hands-on to configure and deploy it properly."
What is our primary use case?
We are a consulting agency and we help people make technology and business decisions.
Our environment is fully online and we're a Microsoft 365 shop. We are using Intune for security. It is their MDM for mobile devices, but it is also their application ADM and it works on desktops as well.
We primarily use it to maintain compliance for our customers. They require that we use it to enforce compliance with the same level that they do internally, so we're following the compliance guidelines of several Fortune 100 companies. Intune is what we use to meet those requirements.
How has it helped my organization?
Using this product has completely stopped DLP, so people cannot take material off of corporate machines or corporate imagines, and that's a huge benefit.
What is most valuable?
The biggest thing for us is enforcing logins only from devices that are managed by Intune.
We also use it for enforcing DLP and all of the other security policies that you need for compliance in order to do work for major corporations.
It integrates well with the Microsoft environment. Once it's deployed, it's set and forget.
What needs improvement?
Once it's configured it is unobtrusive, but it does take some hands-on to configure and deploy it properly.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Intune for a year.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Intune has been very stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We're a small company of fewer than 100 people and it scales well enough for us.
We are financial analysts and IT consultants.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have not used the technical support personally, but it seems to be okay.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used a third-party package before, and we moved to Intune because it was easier to integrate with Microsoft Windows or Microsoft 365. It also provides coverage for desktops.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup requires user participation. You can't push it without the client being engaged. That is part of the configuration.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, this product works pretty well. Security products are the disgusting medicine that we don't like to take, but we have to take it to stay healthy.
This is a good product because it's transparent and works well, although it's unfortunate that we have to have it.
I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?
Microsoft Azure
