Affordable licensing, good reporting, and excellent technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "Your workstation doesn't slow down, unlike when you use Symantec, for example."
  • "I've not explored all of the features up to now. I still need to see all of the features implemented first to be able to see if anything is missing. However, as of right now, it's working very well for us."

What is our primary use case?

Our organization primarily uses the solution for formalities and as a brand protection antivirus. We plan to start to use it as end-point encryption and USB encryption, as well as to protect our emails.

What is most valuable?

The one PIN reporting is excellent on the solution. Our organization likes that very much.

The reporting, in general, is very easy to understand and is much better than Surface. That particular solution has quite complex reporting that isn't easy to read.

Your workstation doesn't slow down, unlike when you use Symantec, for example.

What needs improvement?

I haven't used the solution for very long, so I haven't encountered many issues using the solution. We're just using it as brand protection for now, and for that, it is working as it should.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've only been using the solution for about one year now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution has been very stable for our organization. We haven't encountered any bugs or glitches. There haven't been crashes. It's worked well for us and we consider it reliable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. If a company needs to expand it out further they should be able to do so easily.

We currently have 120 people within our organization using the product.

How are customer service and support?

We've been in touch with technical support in the past. We've been satisfied with their level of assistance and the speed and quality in which they deliver it.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In the past, I have also worked with McAfee, Symantec, and Surface.

The last time I used a Symantec I had a lot of issues where a lot of my workstations become slow. With McAfee updating the product was always quite an issue. Surface had reports, that, for me, were very complex compared to Trend Micro. That's why our organization decided to switch to this solution instead of using the others mentioned.

How was the initial setup?

I wasn't a part of the implementation team, so I can't speak to what the process was like. I have no idea as to if it is difficult or straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

We had a third party handle the installation for us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Our organization has paid licensing for three years, which averaged about $4.00 USD per user. We've been satisfied with the licensing. It's quite reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend the solution. I'd rate it nine out of ten.

I've not explored all of the features up to now. I still need to see all of the features implemented first to be able to see if anything is missing. However, as of right now, it's working very well for us.

Good documentation and excellent technical support but needs to have an easier deployment
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution gives users peace of mind that, form an endpoint perspective, they are protected once it is installed."
  • "The solution needs to improve the deployment so it aligns with the latest Microsoft patches and upgrades. It makes the deployment process lengthy and painful."

What is our primary use case?

There were a couple of primary use cases for us. One of the most frequent was to deploy an agent onto user devices, including laptops and workstations. We were also to employ agents on mobile. It was used to detect viruses on everything from computers to USBs in our organization.

How has it helped my organization?

The solution gives users peace of mind that, form an endpoint perspective, they are protected once it is installed.

What is most valuable?

The centralized dashboard from which we can see all activities and get reports is very good. We can also do all configurations from a single panel of a management console. It's helpful.

The solution overall is very helpful and very reliable. We appreciate the reliability of the system.

We've compared it to another Trend Micro product that is free, and this solution catches a lot more viruses than the free version.

When users click on links accidentally, Trend Micro is able to contain and block viruses to ensure nothing happens to an organization's system. It protects not only the client's users but also the main core infrastructure.

The customer service from the product is great. There's lots of hands-on navigation support, and you call in or be on a conference line with the support when you need them. They will go over everything related to any upgrades or deployments.

The documentation is very thorough and robust. It makes a lengthy deployment a bit easier.

What needs improvement?

The solution needs to improve the deployment so it aligns with the latest Microsoft patches and upgrades. It makes the deployment process lengthy and painful.

The solution needs to add more AI. It already has some AI and machine learning built in, but they could be more advanced and offer deeper learning capabilities.

For how long have I used the solution?

I had been using the solution for just over one year. I used it from September 2018 until about November 2019.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is a very stable solution. However, it could be more compatible with major vendors, especially Microsoft.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I'm not sure I can talk to the scalability of the product. Our organization had over 1,000 people, but I had not witnessed our organization try to scale it.

Typically the solution is handled by users directly from the IT department.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is fantastic, especially in relation to deployment, where we originally ran into a bit of trouble in relation to Microsoft patches. They stayed with us on the phone and helped us power through the implementation by sharing their knowledge and advice.

Their service is also very quick. They have less than a 24-hour turnaround.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I did previously use a different solution. It was a long time ago, so I'm unsure as to what the company did use back then.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was pretty straightforward.

The deployment, in terms of the upgrade process, isn't as simple. If Microsoft, for example, patches things, you have to pause or disable the software before the patch and upgrade is applied before you can enable the agent. It would be helpful if this process was easier and if the solution would ultimately be more compatible with Microsoft's upgrades. It requires a lot of the user's attention.

We have an implementation strategy to move from on-premises to the cloud in the near future.

We required three people for maintenance.

What about the implementation team?

We worked directly with a reseller, but more from a license procurement perspective. The assistance we received for the initial setup was more directly from Trend Micro.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The licensing is on a yearly basis and I believe our organization paid about $2,000/year. However, it's been a while since I looked at the pricing and we no longer use the solution.

What other advice do I have?

In terms of advice to other users, because there are so many products out there, I would caution anyone to do a thorough POC. It would be helpful. Once a company is hands-on with it, they will begin to understand a lot about the product. Demos are very limiting. Currently, I'm looking at and trying out other solutions as we've moved away from this one.

I'd rate the solution seven out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Offers satisfying endpoint security and easy integrations with the capability of blocking DDoS attacks
Pros and Cons
  • "Integrates easily with almost every third-party product"
  • "The dashboard or console of Trend Micro Smart Protection should be easier to comprehend"

What is our primary use case?

When one of our organization's clients opts for the whole suite of Trend Micro products, including DDS, Deep Security, and EDR, then Trend Micro Smart Protection also serves as a fruitful and usable for them when troubleshooting or tech assistance is required.

We recommend and promote Trend Micro Smart Protection to our company clients because, with this solution, they can have immediate tech support instead of waiting a day or two to solve any issues.

What is most valuable?

The products of Trend Micro Smart Protection Suite are designed in a way such that most clients will need to utilize all of them at some point. The major goal of Trend Micro Smart Protection is to protect the client's environment with endpoint security.

What needs improvement?

The dashboard or console of Trend Micro Smart Protection should be easier to comprehend. If the product console is made more intuitive, users will not have to undergo training before using Trend Micro Smart Protection.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Trend Micro Smart Protection for three to four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability a nine out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I would rate the scalability an eight out of ten. I would recommend the solution mostly to enterprise-grade companies, as small and medium organizations may hesitate with the affordability.

How are customer service and support?

Trend Micro Smart Protection has two different kinds of support. One is cost-free, but it requires a user to go through different levels and wait in a queue to avail of support, which is time-consuming. The other kind of support is purchased, and tech support can be availed immediately from the Trend Micro support team.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup can seem simple for a support engineer or tech professional with experience with similar solutions from different vendors, but not for others. If the deployer receives training regarding Trend Micro Smart Protection, it would be helpful for them.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Trend Micro Smart Protection is more costly than competitor solutions, including Kaspersky, Symantec, Bitdefender, and McAfee. I would rate the pricing an eight out of ten.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I believe Trend Micro Smart Protection is much more robust than Kaspersky EDR. At our company, we work with both Trend Micro Smart Protection and Kaspersky EDR; we have witnessed them integrate and operate in varying environments, and the results claim that Trend Micro Smart Protection is a better solution.

What other advice do I have?

Threat protection is a valuable feature of the product. One vital aspect of Trend Micro Smart Protection is the release of frequent updates so that any DDoS attacks can be blocked.

In our company, we have found the integration capabilities of the product to be flawless, as it integrates easily with almost every third-party product. Our organization mostly deals with the on-prem version of the product, but I believe the vendor offers a hybrid version as well, which can be used both in the cloud and on-prem.

I would rate Trend Micro Smart Protection as nine out of ten overall. I would definitely recommend Trend Micro Smart Protection to others.

A stable solution used for malware analysis, but its device control options are not too beneficial
Pros and Cons
  • "Trend Micro Smart Protection has good features like malware analysis, C-to-C connection and detection, workbench, auto security play with features, and lots of DDI features."
  • "The solution's device control options are not too beneficial."

What is our primary use case?

Trend Micro Smart Protection is used for malware analysis. Trend Micro Smart Protection is integrated with the XDR Vision One.

What is most valuable?

Trend Micro Smart Protection has good features like malware analysis, C-to-C connection and detection, workbench, auto security play with features, and lots of DDI features.

What needs improvement?

We can create security playbooks from our detected workbench for future detection in XDR Vision One. Suppose an error happened in the past, and we created a security playbook for this event. The next time this event happens again, the security playbook can detect the error and notify the incident responder.

The solution's device control options are not too beneficial. If I block USB detection, all USBs, including the non-storage devices or any other devices, are blocked. These are the issues with Trend Micro Smart Protection.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro Smart Protection for eight to nine months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Trend Micro Smart Protection is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Trend Micro Smart Protection is a scalable solution. More than 500 users are using the solution in our organization.

How was the initial setup?

Trend Micro Smart Protection's initial setup is easy. The agent is pushed by any PDQ software at the client end, and just one click is required for installation. All endpoints are connected with Apex One Central, and Apex One Central is connected with XDR Vision One and Trend Micro Smart Protection.

What about the implementation team?

If I have 600 endpoints, I can push 600 agents by PDQ in one go within two to three days. XDR Vision One and Trend Micro Smart Protection require two to three hours because it's a cloud-based solution. If we seek the help of Trend Micro Guide, we can deploy XDR Vision One or activate the Vision One license on the cloud. This is not a long procedure, and installing XDR Vision One and Trend Micro Smart Protection takes approximately two to three hours.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate Trend Micro Smart Protection a six out of ten.

Easy to deploy with proactive sandboxing and built-in DLP capabilities
Pros and Cons
  • "The sandboxing is more proactive and more reliable than any of the other endpoint protection solutions."
  • "This product is not very simple and in fact, kind of hard for some people to understand."

What is our primary use case?

We are a solution provider and we are pitching this product to our enterprise clients. These include organizations in the financial and banking sector, as well as other industries. We are focusing on endpoint protection.

How has it helped my organization?

It sure did. We see major improvement in terms of slowness of machines / computers and blocking more ransomware than any others i have seen.

What is most valuable?

Trend Micro has several features that help to distinguish it from other vendors, especially Kaspersky. These include:

  • There is a choice of deployment between cloud-based and on-premises.
  • Endpoint protection includes DLP capabilities.
  • The sandboxing is more proactive and more reliable than any of the other endpoint protection solutions. It helps to thwart ransomware attacks.

What needs improvement?

This product is not very simple and in fact, kind of hard for some people to understand. After you start working with it, you get the hang of it.

It would be helpful to have vulnerability scanning and patching built-in. It is available as a separate product and including it would be a good selling point. However, if it is very heavy when running on the end-users computers then it is going to backfire.

For how long have I used the solution?

I started working with Trend Micro Smart Protection three or four months ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is not a new product and it is very stable, although one of our engineers found a bug, which was reported to Trend Micro.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a scalable solution. There are some enterprise-level clients with 6,000 or 8,000 licenses. In my experience, I have not seen any endpoint products that are not scalable.

We have approximately 140 clients who are using Trend Micro products. These are products with a security purpose that is very specific and I am not sure how many are using the Smart Protection Complete solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have not personally contacted technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Prior to this, I was very committed to Kaspersky. In the past ten years, 70% of the endpoint protection market has been captured by Kaspersky. Before that, it was Symantec. I also have experience with solutions from Bitdefender, McAfee, and Sophos.

I think that Trend Micro is already quite strong against Symantec and Sophos. With respect to Kaspersky, they do not have and endpoint DLP solution, it does not have a choice of deployment model, and the sandboxing is not as proactive. That said, I feel that Kaspersky is the biggest competitor. It is a more mature product in Pakistan and I have different clients who are using each of these solutions. Overall, they are not much different in terms of features.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is very straightforward.

It takes a much shorter time to deploy compared to any other product that I have worked with. As an example, I have one client who purchased 150 licenses. The choice was made to deploy it to the cloud. From start to finish, with the configuration and fine-tuning, it took between four and five hours.

I would estimate that the deployment takes between 30 and 40 minutes unless you face some kind of unprecedented difficulty in your network that is not related to the endpoint. The length of time also varies depending on how big the network is and how ideal the situation is. Sometimes, for example, you need end-users to turn off their computers.

What about the implementation team?

Well since we are the vendors and implemented and deployed on client side many times, i would say you definitely required highest level of expertise.

What was our ROI?

In a longer term, you definitely get your money worth spending on Trend Micro product.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Licensing module is more or less as any other AV. However, they are on little expensive side compare to other products but i believe it is worth it because of the features and quality of the product.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Yes, i have evaluated kaspersky, Symantec and bit defender.

What other advice do I have?

There was a big gap in the availability of this product in Pakistan from 2009 to 2017. There was simply no presence of Trend Micro. In 2017, they hired people and they started a local distributor that included a technical team. With the backend support here, it has strengthened the market.

When we demonstrate this solution to potential clients, we conduct the demo on the cloud. However, we leave the option to them whether they want an on-premises or cloud-based deployment. Organizations and banks in the financial sector in Pakistan generally do not use cloud-based solutions at this time.

That said, my advice for anybody who is implementing this solution is to use a cloud-based deployment. It is much easier to administer because you have access to the dashboard from anywhere at any time. Also, if it happens that they do require technical support then it is easier to give access to the vendor's support team. Otherwise, it will take longer to resolve the issue.

Nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement.

I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

Offers favorable features for SMBs at an affordable price but needs improvement in encryption services
Pros and Cons
  • "It is a stable solution."
  • "No online encryption or cloud services are available for the tool, so my company has to install it mostly in an on-premises environment. Encryption or cloud services need to be made available in the product."

What is our primary use case?

I use the solution in my company for EMS Consulting, which operates as Salesforce's implementation partner.

What needs improvement?

No online encryption or cloud services are available for the tool, so my company has to install it mostly in an on-premises environment. Encryption or cloud services need to be made available in the product.

Maintenance of databases on a product deployed on an on-premises model is difficult. Nowadays, no one wants to maintain databases on a product deployed on an on-premises model, and they prefer a cloud-based tool.

The product should support a few DLP features and a few more applications. Google and Microsoft currently offer DLP applications.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Trend Micro Smart Protection for three to four years. My company is a customer of the product.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

My organization can be described as an SMB company.

How are customer service and support?

My company has access to Trend Micro's partner support.

I rate the technical support a ten out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

My company has experience with Symantec. My company moved from Symantec since it does not offer all the features, like DLP in application security features.

How was the initial setup?

The product is easy to deploy.

The product's deployment process takes time since my company has not opted for managed services.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Trend Micro is for SMBs, and it is one of the best products when compared to the other solutions in the market, like Palo Alto. The product is not very expensive.

What other advice do I have?

Trend Micro Smart Protection has improved our company's endpoint security posture since it is useful for web security. Trend Micro's zero trust strategy is also helpful, as it works in hybrid, cloud, and on-premises environments.

My company still faces challenges with the product, and I feel that the product needs to be upgraded more in order to be more effective against malware attacks.

For threat detection accuracy and its impact on our company's security operations, my company has access to a firewall, a separate team, and everything else that is required to deal with cyber attacks.

The product is really good for SMBs, especially for businesses with budget constraints.

I rate the tool a six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Provides you with real-time updates on the latest and ongoing attacks and malware information
Pros and Cons
  • "The tool will query the information from the cloud to identify suspicious or malicious files that can be a threat. It will provide you with real-time updates on the latest and ongoing attacks and malware information."
  • "I want the tool to provide the solutions integrated within it to have regular updates. Currently, the solutions integrated with Smart Protection get updates from the cloud. I want to minimize the download from the cloud."

What is our primary use case?

The tool will query the information from the cloud to identify suspicious or malicious files that can be a threat. It will provide you with real-time updates on the latest and ongoing attacks and malware information.

What needs improvement?

I want the tool to provide the solutions integrated within it to have regular updates. Currently, the solutions integrated with Smart Protection get updates from the cloud. I want to minimize the download from the cloud.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with the solution for three to four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The tool is stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The tool is scalable. There are around 20-40 customers for the solution in our company.

How are customer service and support?

We do not face any issues with the product. In case any issue arises, we resolve it ourselves.

How was the initial setup?

The tool’s setup is not complex. It is a Linux-based platform and there is no configuration. We can configure the schedule to update and push through the network server which will take around one hour to complete.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate the tool a nine out of ten.
