The primary use case of this solution is for antivirus protection, ransomware, and trojan horse protection.

Threat protection that is priced well
Pros and Cons
- "What I like the most is the customer pricing because it's a great value."
- "In the next release, I would like to see a combination of the different features from Apex One and OfficeScan in Trend Micro Smart, rather than as upgraded features."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
What I like the most is the customer pricing because it's a great value.
What needs improvement?
We are currently using Trend Micro for protection, but they have another product called Apex One that we would like to use instead.
Apex One includes artificial intelligence and is offered as an upgrade.
Trend Micro is signature-based, and with Apex One, because of the Artificial Intelligence, you don't have to use the signature file.
In the next release, I would like to see a combination of the different features from Apex One and OfficeScan in Trend Micro Smart, rather than as upgraded features.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have a had a few glitches but every program experiences the same thing, so it was not a problem.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have 300 users.
How are customer service and support?
We have not contacted technical support, but we do have local support available.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, we were using CrowdStrike and Carbon Black. In the last ten years, we have used three or four different brands and we feel that sometimes it is good to change.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward.
Most were deployed automatically, but there were a few colleagues that were working on site offices in other cities which required it to be done manually.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This solution provides good value for the price.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Easy to deploy with proactive sandboxing and built-in DLP capabilities
Pros and Cons
- "The sandboxing is more proactive and more reliable than any of the other endpoint protection solutions."
- "This product is not very simple and in fact, kind of hard for some people to understand."
What is our primary use case?
We are a solution provider and we are pitching this product to our enterprise clients. These include organizations in the financial and banking sector, as well as other industries. We are focusing on endpoint protection.
How has it helped my organization?
It sure did. We see major improvement in terms of slowness of machines / computers and blocking more ransomware than any others i have seen.
What is most valuable?
Trend Micro has several features that help to distinguish it from other vendors, especially Kaspersky. These include:
- There is a choice of deployment between cloud-based and on-premises.
- Endpoint protection includes DLP capabilities.
- The sandboxing is more proactive and more reliable than any of the other endpoint protection solutions. It helps to thwart ransomware attacks.
What needs improvement?
This product is not very simple and in fact, kind of hard for some people to understand. After you start working with it, you get the hang of it.
It would be helpful to have vulnerability scanning and patching built-in. It is available as a separate product and including it would be a good selling point. However, if it is very heavy when running on the end-users computers then it is going to backfire.
For how long have I used the solution?
I started working with Trend Micro Smart Protection three or four months ago.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
This is not a new product and it is very stable, although one of our engineers found a bug, which was reported to Trend Micro.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
This is a scalable solution. There are some enterprise-level clients with 6,000 or 8,000 licenses. In my experience, I have not seen any endpoint products that are not scalable.
We have approximately 140 clients who are using Trend Micro products. These are products with a security purpose that is very specific and I am not sure how many are using the Smart Protection Complete solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
I have not personally contacted technical support.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Prior to this, I was very committed to Kaspersky. In the past ten years, 70% of the endpoint protection market has been captured by Kaspersky. Before that, it was Symantec. I also have experience with solutions from Bitdefender, McAfee, and Sophos.
I think that Trend Micro is already quite strong against Symantec and Sophos. With respect to Kaspersky, they do not have and endpoint DLP solution, it does not have a choice of deployment model, and the sandboxing is not as proactive. That said, I feel that Kaspersky is the biggest competitor. It is a more mature product in Pakistan and I have different clients who are using each of these solutions. Overall, they are not much different in terms of features.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is very straightforward.
It takes a much shorter time to deploy compared to any other product that I have worked with. As an example, I have one client who purchased 150 licenses. The choice was made to deploy it to the cloud. From start to finish, with the configuration and fine-tuning, it took between four and five hours.
I would estimate that the deployment takes between 30 and 40 minutes unless you face some kind of unprecedented difficulty in your network that is not related to the endpoint. The length of time also varies depending on how big the network is and how ideal the situation is. Sometimes, for example, you need end-users to turn off their computers.
What about the implementation team?
Well since we are the vendors and implemented and deployed on client side many times, i would say you definitely required highest level of expertise.
What was our ROI?
In a longer term, you definitely get your money worth spending on Trend Micro product.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Licensing module is more or less as any other AV. However, they are on little expensive side compare to other products but i believe it is worth it because of the features and quality of the product.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Yes, i have evaluated kaspersky, Symantec and bit defender.
What other advice do I have?
There was a big gap in the availability of this product in Pakistan from 2009 to 2017. There was simply no presence of Trend Micro. In 2017, they hired people and they started a local distributor that included a technical team. With the backend support here, it has strengthened the market.
When we demonstrate this solution to potential clients, we conduct the demo on the cloud. However, we leave the option to them whether they want an on-premises or cloud-based deployment. Organizations and banks in the financial sector in Pakistan generally do not use cloud-based solutions at this time.
That said, my advice for anybody who is implementing this solution is to use a cloud-based deployment. It is much easier to administer because you have access to the dashboard from anywhere at any time. Also, if it happens that they do require technical support then it is easier to give access to the vendor's support team. Otherwise, it will take longer to resolve the issue.
Nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud
If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

IT Expert at a government with 1,001-5,000 employees
Excellent reporting features and a good user interface with very fast packet data
Pros and Cons
- "The solution integrates well with other Trend Micro products."
- "The threat response could be a bit better."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution due to a recommendation from our partner.
What is most valuable?
The solution is able to detect custom viruses that have been targeted at us.
The solution integrates well with other Trend Micro products.
The solution's interface is good.
There is very good computer visibility and machine control.
The reporting features are very good.
The integration of packet data is very fast.
What needs improvement?
The price of the solution could be improved. For us, this is the most important aspect that could be better. If they could improve their pricing strategy, it would impress us.
The threat response could be a bit better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I believe I've been using the solution for around five years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable. We haven't experienced any issues with the stability at all. There haven't been any bugs or glitches. There haven't been any crashes either.
How are customer service and technical support?
Although someone on our team may have called technical support, I personally have not. I can't speak to any direct experience with them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
For many years, we used Symantec. We were not satisfied with it, so we decided to switch.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easy. We found it straightforward.
The solution was deployed for our company, for the whole infrastructure.
It might have taken us up to a week to deploy it.
What about the implementation team?
I handled the implementation myself.
What other advice do I have?
We have about 3,000 people in our company, and of that, about 2,800 are on the solution.
I'd rate the solution ten out of ten.
Right now, we anticipate the solution will work well with different vendors. However, this is still a big question for us, as our infrastructure is Cisco, and they provide us with integrations for visibility, connector response threads, etc. At this point, we're considering switching entirely over from Trend Micro to Cisco because we have so much on Cisco already. Our management will ultimately decide on the direction the company decides to go.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

A comprehensive solution with DLP, device control, and other features, but it does have its challenges in terms of scalability
Pros and Cons
- "It is their most comprehensive endpoint protection solution. It includes DLP and Office 365. It also includes device control and the rest of the little bells and whistles that the traditional AV vendors have."
- "It is onsite. It does have its challenges in terms of scalability."
What is our primary use case?
It is an endpoint protection solution. It is now being phased out for Cloud One, but it is still being used by customers.
What is most valuable?
It is their most comprehensive endpoint protection solution. It includes DLP and Office 365. It also includes device control and the rest of the little bells and whistles that the traditional AV vendors have.
What needs improvement?
I'm expecting Smart Protection to be phased out, and for them to only use their cloud-enabled EDR. I expect it to become end-of-life in the next three years and then just the EDR will be available.
It is onsite. It does have its challenges in terms of scalability.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been providing this solution for a few years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is fairly scalable, but it is onsite. So, it does have its challenges in scalability. It is not like a cloud-native type of thing that you can just ramp up.
Its user count is quite big. I've got about 10 customers.
How are customer service and support?
Their technical support is good. I would rate them a seven out of 10.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
The installation is fairly straightforward, but it also depends on how deep you want to go. If you want to do encryption of all the endpoints with it, then it becomes a bit more challenging because encryption on an endpoint is a challenge in itself. It's time-consuming, and it needs certain things to be done in the BIOS and so forth before the encryption works perfectly. Usually, it takes about half an hour per endpoint, and that includes troubleshooting the anomalies.
In terms of the people required for its implementation, it depends on how quickly you want to do it. It takes about half an hour per installation. What we usually do is that we've got a team of people who sit and do the installation and configuration. So, the initial installation and configuration take a bit of time, but after that, running it isn't time-consuming.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is an annual subscription license on it. In the next release, there might be monthly payment options. So, people might be able to get it through AWS in the future, but right now for on-prem, it is annual.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend it for people with budget constraints and smaller companies. I would not recommend it for what we consider as enterprise companies here in South Africa.
It is a good product. As compared to other endpoint protection products, I would rate it a six out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

The product scales well, but it does not provide insights into what is being done
Pros and Cons
- "The scalability works well."
- "It does not provide insights into what is being done."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case is endpoint protection.
What needs improvement?
It does not provide insights into what is being done. I don't see value when I present the product to the customer. It says it has done something, but it doesn't provide me any information about what was done.
Insights are very important. When it say that definitions are updated, which definitions? How is it protecting me? What is the product doing? All I am getting are one line updates.
More insights, like metadata, is important. Without this, there is no point in installing the solution.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The stability is okay.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability works well.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have not had any challenges with the technical support.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. It is a freestyle installation. It is double click, then you are done.
What about the implementation team?
We do the customer installations.
What was our ROI?
I have not seen any value yet.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Our shortlist consisted of Sophos, Trend Micro, and SentinelOne.
I have another solution that I am currently evaluating to see if it will provide better value.

Scalable, useful automatic scanning, but security could improve
Pros and Cons
- "The most valuable feature of Trend Micro Smart Protection is automatic scanning."
- "Trend Micro Smart Protection could improve automatic scanning because sometimes it pops up when I am doing my work. It would be helpful to have a feature to have it only automatically scan when the system is on standby mode. I would be able to be more efficient with my work. Additionally, security could improve."
What is our primary use case?
I am using Trend Micro Smart Protection for my endpoints.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature of Trend Micro Smart Protection is automatic scanning.
What needs improvement?
Trend Micro Smart Protection could improve automatic scanning because sometimes it pops up when I am doing my work. It would be helpful to have a feature to have it only automatically scan when the system is on standby mode. I would be able to be more efficient with my work. Additionally, security could improve.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Trend Micro Smart Protection for over three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Trend Micro Smart Protection is a stable solution, but it could improve a bit.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of Trend Micro Smart Protection is good.
We have approximately 40 to 50 people using the solution in my organization.
How are customer service and support?
I have not used the support from Trend Micro Smart Protection.
What about the implementation team?
My IT team did the implementation of Trend Micro Smart Protection.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price of Trend Micro Smart Protection is reasonable.
What other advice do I have?
I rate Trend Micro Smart Protection a seven out of ten.

Easy to set up with fair pricing and good stability
Pros and Cons
- "The next-generation antivirus features are excellent."
- "I'm not sure about the cloud migration part, in terms of whether it is seamless or not."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for protection.
What is most valuable?
The DLP is very good.
The next-generation antivirus features are excellent.
The initial setup is easy.
We have found the solution to be stable.
The scalability is very good.
The price of the product is fair.
What needs improvement?
I'm not sure about the cloud migration part, in terms of whether it is seamless or not.
We'd like the solution to incorporate more ETL functionalities in the future.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution for almost a year now. It hasn't been that long just yet.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product has been stable so far. We haven't had any issues with bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze. The performance is good.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The scalability of the product is very good. If a company needs to expand it, it can do so.
We mostly deal with enterprise-level organizations and it works very well for them.
How are customer service and technical support?
As I am in sales, I do not directly deal with technical support. Therefore, I cannot provide feedback in terms of the level of their service. I cannot speak to how helpful or responsive they are.
How was the initial setup?
The implementation process is not complex. It's very simple and straightforward. A company shouldn't have any issues with the process.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is very reasonable. It's not too expensive.
What other advice do I have?
We are a managed security service provider, and we provide solutions to our customers.
We are existing platinum partners with Trend Micro.
I am on the sales side, not delivery, therefore, I cannot speak to which version of the solution we are using.
Overall, it's a good product. I would rate it at an eight out of ten.

Amazing product with DLP, vulnerability management, and application whitelisting features
Pros and Cons
- "Product-wise, it is amazing. It includes DLP, vulnerability management, and application whitelisting features. These features are very good and add value in selling this solution to our customers. These features make the key selling point. I recently did a comparison with the FireEye firewall for a customer. They were basically going to replace Trend Micro with their EDR. Because of these features, I could convince the customer that Trend Micro is better than FireEye."
- "Documentation-wise, they are a disaster. If you want to know something about Trend Micro, you will not find anything useful from Trend Micro themselves. You have to basically dig some blog, or you need to seek some expert to help you understand what they are offering. I have never seen such a good product with such disastrous documentation. Feature-wise, almost all vendors are providing the same features, but it is all about the integration. For example, Trend Micro is promoting their endpoint protection suite, but they never mention about the integration that they are offering with their EDR solution. They are treating each product as a separate island, and you don't know much about their integration. It would be good if they can focus on integration."
What is our primary use case?
We are a system integrator, and we sell Trend Micro solutions. We are also using Trend Micro solutions for our internal IT. We use this solution for endpoint protection (EPP). We also use it for server protection.
What is most valuable?
Product-wise, it is amazing. It includes DLP, vulnerability management, and application whitelisting features. These features are very good and add value in selling this solution to our customers. I have been selling Trend Micro products for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Our customers are satisfied with the product in terms of stability and scalability.
How are customer service and technical support?
In the local market, I don't see any Trend Micro technical guy supporting anywhere. I am not aware if they have a technical team in Saudi Arabia.
How was the initial setup?
I work at the design level. I have never installed the product, but based on my understanding from our deployment team, it is pretty much easy to install. They find it very good and don't have any difficulty in the installation and configuration of this solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
Its price is fine. Price-wise, it is competitive with any other vendor.
What other advice do I have?
In Saudi Arabia, we are only selling on-premises models. The customers mostly request for the on-premises model, not the cloud model, due to the regulation issues. As per government regulations, we cannot send our data to anything outside Saudi Arabia. That's why the possibility is only to use on-premises products.
Trend Micro Smart Protection is basically the number one endpoint protection platform that I propose to my customers. As a solution architect, I would recommend Trend Micro Smart Protection.
I would rate Trend Micro Smart Protection a nine out of ten. It just needs more integration and more explanation about the product.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises
