With this solution, we can minimize data leaks that often result from ransomware incidents
Pros and Cons
- "Trend Micro has consistently been recognized as a leader for endpoint security on Gartner, which has been our top priority. Based on my personal experience, we encountered fewer ransomware attacks for Trend Micro customers in Sri Lanka."
- "The only notable concern is the level of support in the particular region of Sri Lanka. Following events in the past two years, the quality of technical support has regrettably declined."
What is our primary use case?
What is most valuable?
Trend Micro has consistently been recognized as a leader for endpoint security on Gartner, which has been our top priority. Based on my personal experience, we encountered fewer ransomware attacks for Trend Micro customers in Sri Lanka.
The product's robust architecture ensures comprehensive protection for endpoint computers. This encompasses behavioral AI detection patterns, models, and an extensive database. This combination effectively detects and thwarts zero-day attacks and targeted breaches. I highly recommend this product to all types of customers.
What needs improvement?
I see continuous improvement in the product. With the ever-evolving technological landscape, various vendors are acknowledging Trend Micro's intelligent global platform for their solutions. The only notable concern is the level of support in the particular region of Sri Lanka. Following events in the past two years, the quality of technical support has regrettably declined. While the support was commendable before that period, it has not been up to par for the last couple of years in this region, specifically Sri Lanka. I cannot speak for other regions.
Having a swift deployment option would be highly beneficial. Additionally, optimizing the product to minimize bandwidth usage is crucial, given the limited bandwidth availability in countries like Sri Lanka. Both deployment flexibility and bandwidth efficiency are key aspects of product enhancement, especially considering that remote deployment options would be a significant advantage for nationwide product adoption.
For on-premises products, there is a remote deployment option available. However, for cloud products like incident response solutions, having a similar capability to recognize work devices and seamlessly integrate endpoints into the network via the cloud platform would be beneficial.
For how long have I used the solution?
I am a distributor and I have been associated with the product for more than five years.

831,791 professionals have used our research since 2012.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Trend Micro is highly stable. I rate the stability a ten out of ten.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is a scalable solution. I rate it a nine out of ten.
How are customer service and support?
We offer technical support services and have certified engineers within our company, myself included. Our certifications encompass various platforms such as endpoint security, network protection, and server safeguarding. We are dedicated to providing maintenance and technical assistance to our clients. In my team, there are six engineers for Trend Micro Smart Protection.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Positive
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We, as distributors, offer a range of products including PostgreSQL, Kaspersky, Norton, and Sophos among others. Personally, I have hands-on experience with all these endpoint products. As for my personal usage, I've found differences between Trend Micro and the other solutions. Trend Micro excels in terms of device performance, standing out among its competitors.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward. Regarding deployment, there aren't any significant challenges. However, in comparison to other products I've worked with throughout my career, Trend Micro needs more setup resources. This might not pose an issue for users equipped with a substantial amount of memory or RAM, but for lower-end machines, the product tends to consume a considerable portion of the CPU, which could potentially lead to complications for customers utilizing AWS.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
In terms of pricing, in comparison to products like Kaspersky, Trend Micro's price might appear higher. However, this elevated cost can be rationalized due to the extensive features and detection engines that Trend Micro provides.
The price may be a challenge for countries with economic conditions like Sri Lanka. If there was reasonable pricing for Sri Lanka, it would be a plus point.
I would rate it a two out of ten.
What other advice do I have?
By using Trend Micro, we can minimize data leaks that often result from ransomware incidents. Additionally, the solution allows us to exercise control over user actions, enabling us to apply security measures to safeguard user data. This undoubtedly brings significant advantages to a company.
I would rate Trend Micro a nine out of ten.

Good features with great performance and pretty good security
Pros and Cons
- "The stability is good and I like the level of performance I can get."
- "The web filtering could be improved."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for web filtering. It's useful for protecting personal information.
What is most valuable?
The stability is good and I like the level of performance I can get. It's not picking up a lot of the sources from the PC which makes it very light. It's policy-based, therefore, users have a different level of access to the internet and to the file servers.
The solution has many good features.
We don't have an issue with the level of security on offer.
What needs improvement?
The web filtering could be improved.
For how long have I used the solution?
We just started using the solution a few months ago. It hasn't been that long just yet.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable and the product isn't too heavy, which makes the performance good. It doesn't slow down machines. It doesn't crash or freeze either.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have about 250 users on the solution. That includes remote workers as well.
I'm not sure if there are plans at this point to go and expand the solution or not.
How was the initial setup?
While I'm not sure how the initial setup goes, I can say that for the end customer it is only a script, so it's less than a second to deploy. It's auto-pushed by the ADs, Active Directories.
We have three engineers that can handle deployment and maintenance tasks.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We have a license that is paid and renewed yearly.
What other advice do I have?
We're customers and end-users.
We're using the latest version of the solution. However, I do not know the version number off-hand.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten due to the fact that I don't really like the web filtering.
I'd recommend the solution to other users.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

IT Expert at a government with 1,001-5,000 employees
Excellent reporting features and a good user interface with very fast packet data
Pros and Cons
- "The solution integrates well with other Trend Micro products."
- "The threat response could be a bit better."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution due to a recommendation from our partner.
What is most valuable?
The solution is able to detect custom viruses that have been targeted at us.
The solution integrates well with other Trend Micro products.
The solution's interface is good.
There is very good computer visibility and machine control.
The reporting features are very good.
The integration of packet data is very fast.
What needs improvement?
The price of the solution could be improved. For us, this is the most important aspect that could be better. If they could improve their pricing strategy, it would impress us.
The threat response could be a bit better.
For how long have I used the solution?
I believe I've been using the solution for around five years now.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution is stable. We haven't experienced any issues with the stability at all. There haven't been any bugs or glitches. There haven't been any crashes either.
How are customer service and technical support?
Although someone on our team may have called technical support, I personally have not. I can't speak to any direct experience with them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
For many years, we used Symantec. We were not satisfied with it, so we decided to switch.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is easy. We found it straightforward.
The solution was deployed for our company, for the whole infrastructure.
It might have taken us up to a week to deploy it.
What about the implementation team?
I handled the implementation myself.
What other advice do I have?
We have about 3,000 people in our company, and of that, about 2,800 are on the solution.
I'd rate the solution ten out of ten.
Right now, we anticipate the solution will work well with different vendors. However, this is still a big question for us, as our infrastructure is Cisco, and they provide us with integrations for visibility, connector response threads, etc. At this point, we're considering switching entirely over from Trend Micro to Cisco because we have so much on Cisco already. Our management will ultimately decide on the direction the company decides to go.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using this solution for five months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It has so far been a stable solution.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is scalable and supports our needs.
How are customer service and support?
I rate the technical support a ten out of ten.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We switched to Trend Micro Smart Protection due to the lack of after-service.
How was the initial setup?
It took about a week to integrate, and we used an integrator.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We have annual licensing costs, but I do not have specific figures.
What other advice do I have?
I rate this solution an eight out of ten. Using Trend Micro Smart Protection depends on the business case. Here in Egypt, we like the technical support, and they have a very good reputation. We have good staff in the country, and I recommend Trend Micro Smart Protection to anyone in the Egyptian market.

A comprehensive solution with DLP, device control, and other features, but it does have its challenges in terms of scalability
Pros and Cons
- "It is their most comprehensive endpoint protection solution. It includes DLP and Office 365. It also includes device control and the rest of the little bells and whistles that the traditional AV vendors have."
- "It is onsite. It does have its challenges in terms of scalability."
What is our primary use case?
It is an endpoint protection solution. It is now being phased out for Cloud One, but it is still being used by customers.
What is most valuable?
It is their most comprehensive endpoint protection solution. It includes DLP and Office 365. It also includes device control and the rest of the little bells and whistles that the traditional AV vendors have.
What needs improvement?
I'm expecting Smart Protection to be phased out, and for them to only use their cloud-enabled EDR. I expect it to become end-of-life in the next three years and then just the EDR will be available.
It is onsite. It does have its challenges in terms of scalability.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been providing this solution for a few years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
It is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
It is fairly scalable, but it is onsite. So, it does have its challenges in scalability. It is not like a cloud-native type of thing that you can just ramp up.
Its user count is quite big. I've got about 10 customers.
How are customer service and support?
Their technical support is good. I would rate them a seven out of 10.
How would you rate customer service and support?
Neutral
How was the initial setup?
The installation is fairly straightforward, but it also depends on how deep you want to go. If you want to do encryption of all the endpoints with it, then it becomes a bit more challenging because encryption on an endpoint is a challenge in itself. It's time-consuming, and it needs certain things to be done in the BIOS and so forth before the encryption works perfectly. Usually, it takes about half an hour per endpoint, and that includes troubleshooting the anomalies.
In terms of the people required for its implementation, it depends on how quickly you want to do it. It takes about half an hour per installation. What we usually do is that we've got a team of people who sit and do the installation and configuration. So, the initial installation and configuration take a bit of time, but after that, running it isn't time-consuming.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is an annual subscription license on it. In the next release, there might be monthly payment options. So, people might be able to get it through AWS in the future, but right now for on-prem, it is annual.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend it for people with budget constraints and smaller companies. I would not recommend it for what we consider as enterprise companies here in South Africa.
It is a good product. As compared to other endpoint protection products, I would rate it a six out of 10.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Threat protection that is priced well
Pros and Cons
- "What I like the most is the customer pricing because it's a great value."
- "In the next release, I would like to see a combination of the different features from Apex One and OfficeScan in Trend Micro Smart, rather than as upgraded features."
What is our primary use case?
The primary use case of this solution is for antivirus protection, ransomware, and trojan horse protection.
What is most valuable?
What I like the most is the customer pricing because it's a great value.
What needs improvement?
We are currently using Trend Micro for protection, but they have another product called Apex One that we would like to use instead.
Apex One includes artificial intelligence and is offered as an upgrade.
Trend Micro is signature-based, and with Apex One, because of the Artificial Intelligence, you don't have to use the signature file.
In the next release, I would like to see a combination of the different features from Apex One and OfficeScan in Trend Micro Smart, rather than as upgraded features.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using this solution for three years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We have a had a few glitches but every program experiences the same thing, so it was not a problem.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We have 300 users.
How are customer service and technical support?
We have not contacted technical support, but we do have local support available.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Previously, we were using CrowdStrike and Carbon Black. In the last ten years, we have used three or four different brands and we feel that sometimes it is good to change.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup is straightforward.
Most were deployed automatically, but there were a few colleagues that were working on site offices in other cities which required it to be done manually.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
This solution provides good value for the price.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution.
I would rate this solution an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Pros and Cons
- "One of the most valuable features of Trend Micro Smart Protection is the integration with other solutions."
What is our primary use case?
Trend Micro Smart Protection is used for network security.
What is most valuable?
One of the most valuable features of Trend Micro Smart Protection is the integration with other solutions.
Trend Micro Smart Protection is not much different than the Apex One, but has a few more features and is more robust.
What needs improvement?
The solution could be more compatible with other operating systems.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Trend Micro Smart Protection for approximately three months.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Trend Micro Smart Protection is stable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The solution is scalable.
I have approximately 100 customers using this solution.
How are customer service and technical support?
The support is very good.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I use other security solutions, such as Trend Micro Apex One.
How was the initial setup?
The installation is straightforward. If you have a smaller network environment it could take one day for the implementation and if it is a larger complex environment it could take approximately four days.
What about the implementation team?
We use one certified technician to do the implementation and maintenance of the solution.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
There is an annual license required for this solution.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend this solution to others. However, those looking to purchase this solution should first look at their network to understand the requirements and what they want to do exactly. Trend Micro Smart Protection might be a solution that is more than what is required and Trend Micro Apex One could be sufficient in their use case. Overall choosing between Apex One or Smart Protection is up to them to decide based on their use case.
I rate Trend Micro Smart Protection an eight out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Hybrid Cloud

Good security with helpful notifications and great performance
Pros and Cons
- "We do get notifications, which are helpful."
- "I cannot recall noticing any missing features."
What is our primary use case?
We primarily use the solution for security purposes. We have a Corporate IT who is dealing with the solution directly. My understanding is that they are using it only for a separate antivirus.
What is most valuable?
The performance is okay. It is a very good solution. Our Corporate IT team is able to apply some controls and restrictions which are quite effective.
We do get notifications, which are helpful.
The security is good, and so far, we have not had any breaches.
What needs improvement?
We haven't had any problems with the solution so far. I cannot recall noticing any missing features.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have used the solution for years at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The performance is okay and the solution is stable. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I cannot really speak too authoritatively on the scalability, however, my understanding is that it is okay.
There are less than 100 users on the solution currently.
How are customer service and technical support?
I've never been in touch with technical support. I cannot speak to how helpful or responsive they are.
How was the initial setup?
I wasn't involved in the initial setup. My understanding is that the IT team only pushes it using SCCM. It was our IT team that did the implementation. It's a team of three.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
I am not the one who is administering this antivirus solution. Therefore, I can't speak about the cost surrounding the product. While there is a cost, I do not know the exact amount.
What other advice do I have?
I'm an end-user of the product.
I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. We've been happy with its capabilities over the years.
I would recommend the solution, as, so far, we haven't had any issues whatsoever.
