I used it in a school environment where we use it to download student's profiles and keep them connected to their Outlook, et cetera.
Endpoint Support Technician at Waddell & Reed Financial
Good user interface, affordable, and great for patch management
Pros and Cons
- "The user interface is great."
- "The solution should offer beta testing for new products."
What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
The solution helps as patch management with Macs. Previously I was doing everything manually by myself. With this product, now I'm saving two hours per device and I have roughly 30 devices that I deal with, so it's saving me a huge amount of work.
What is most valuable?
I love it because there's not too much out there for Macs in terms of patch management.
They give users a huge amount of time-savings.
The user interface is great.
The solution overall is very affordable.
What needs improvement?
The solution should offer beta testing for new products.
The solution needs more demos for when new releases come out to help us understand the changes and how to use new features.

For how long have I used the solution?
I've been using the solution on and off for about two years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The solution's stability is solid. There isn't any crashing. There aren't bugs or glitches. It's reliable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
On a previous project, we had about 75-80 people on the solution. On the current project the average amount of users will be 30-35. It's a bit of a smaller project.
How are customer service and support?
When I did have questions, the 24-hour customer service they have on offer helped walk me through a lot of things. I'm satisfied with the level of support we get from Jamf. They've resolved any issue we've ever had.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I've had years of experience with Microsoft products such as the SCCM and we've used some more MBM's and mobile wiring and other kinds of solutions. We're also using Intune as well.
How was the initial setup?
We haven't set up the solution just yet for this latest project. We're going to discuss implementing it soon. However, I need the budget for it first. I'm waiting for that. Right now, we're working on a demo.
We have done the initial setup for previous projects, and as I recall, it was not complex, it was quite straightforward.
I personally take care of any maintenance needed.
What about the implementation team?
We had three days of on-site training. Jamf walks us through everything before implementation even begins so we have a good understanding of how everything works.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The pricing is pretty perfect. I like it; it's very affordable.
What other advice do I have?
I've been following the solution a lot on YouTube, as far as the latest updates, and am continuously reading new white papers on it.
The current version I'm using right now is a demo, however, in the past, I have used the on-premises version.
I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. If they added beta testing, I'd give it perfect marks.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Senior Macintosh Systems Administrator/ Task Lead/ Information Assurance Officer at a government with 10,001+ employees
Saves time, improves efficiency, and the technical support is good
Pros and Cons
- "The Smart Groups have been very beneficial for quick reporting when a critical, out of cycle patch is required."
- "I can only say that I would love to see a more customizable dashboard."
What is our primary use case?
In my highly secure government infrastructures, Jamf is an absolute must for staying in tune with continuous monitoring (critical patching, STIG application, and reporting), especially from a central location.
When we were in pursuit of our authority to operate, we were almost shut down by a Windows-specific IA group until I explained what Jamf was and how it would help implement and prove how secure Macs can be. After that, it was a requirement for our ATO to even be considered, much less approved.
How has it helped my organization?
I am now able to easily manage all of my systems and patch when necessary, with little to no interruptions to the customer. It has saved me tons of time, as well as the IA team when I gave them rights for reporting.
Jamf Pro has helped me educate a Windows-centric agency with an Information Assurance team that is also strictly experienced with Windows. Everyone was fearful of Macs and their integration into a Windows infrastructure and domain. Jamf Pro’s similarities to Microsoft’s SCCM for Windows assets helped me prove that Macs can be as useful, if not more than Windows in some cases, and very easy to secure and keep secure, even with major upgrades.
What is most valuable?
The Smart Groups have been very beneficial for quick reporting when a critical, out of cycle patch is required.
Reporting is obviously an essential tool for any Information Assurance team and if I couldn’t provide it with Jamf, it would have been a show stopper. It is able to provide quick, dynamic, and accurate reports that helped put my department on the map within our agency and other DoD agencies nationwide.
It has allowed us to move further with our additional networks without the fear of being shut down.
What needs improvement?
Sadly, my environment is closed off from the internet so I cannot benefit from all the tools, but with what I can use, I can only say that I would love to see a more customizable dashboard.
In my agency and department, I use tons of tools for scanning, remediation, and reporting. Tools like ACAS and McAfee HBSS have very detailed dashboards if you wish to view more. As stated prior, with reporting being vital, having more detailed, customizable reports that offer graphs, percentages, etc can be useful when looking for quick glance of status when you may not have the time for generating a detailed report.
I would love a bit more of government customer support and reach out. There is a ton of support for the educational fields, understandably, but I would love to see a small team also dedicated to government support.
For how long have I used the solution?
We have been using Jamf Pro for a little over a year in production, and almost two years in development.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
With the simple database requirement, upgrading or rebuilding is very simple. Running my servers on Macs so far, I have had very little setup or crash issues. Those few were likely caused by a bad package but again easily fixable.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I love the flexibility of platforms this can be installed on. It provides ease of upgrades and migration when necessary.
How are customer service and technical support?
So far, every team that is assigned to my account has been very supportive and reaches out often just to check-in. I have sent emails late at night when testing and still got quick responses with an eagerness to help.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have not used a previous solution for Macs. I also have Windows experience and have worked with SCCM. This allowed me to easily explain Jamf Pro and how it works to my Windows-centric agency.
How was the initial setup?
The engineer that came to help with setup adapted to my skill level. Parts that were complex were necessary based on the task at hand. Most of the setup was straightforward and easy to follow. We only had a development system during the initial setup, so when I was required to repeat the steps for our production, it went very smoothly.
What about the implementation team?
I implemented basically on my own aside from the Jamf admin that came to assist with the initial setup of my dev environment.
What was our ROI?
Not being the numbers cruncher guy in the office, I couldn’t say with numbers. However, I can guarantee based on the time saved and no longer needing overtime to complete upgrades, alone, we have already made our money back and then some.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
With respect to pricing, I would suggest reaching out to a sales rep and discussing all of the options. I would advise them to evaluate their infrastructure and what is required. For example, whether an on-premises or cloud-based deployment is more suitable.
Don’t go into a sales call without knowing all the details of your system because Jamf has a ton of tools outside of Jamf Pro to offer and knowing them ahead of time is a must.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I did not evaluate other solutions prior to this one. I was thrown into the job and told about Jamf from a colleague. After researching what it was and what it did, I knew it was the solution I needed to assist my department in their Mac system success.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

Technician Level II at Turner Unified School District
Specializes in Apple devices and simplified our deployment during our hand out events
What is our primary use case?
- We have roughly over 4500 devices between MacBooks and iPads, all managed with Jamf Pro.
- K12 1:1 with classroom carts in PK classrooms.
How has it helped my organization?
Jamf simplified our deployment during our hand out events in the fall. It specializes in Apple devices, which for us was a plus since we didn't have Chromebooks or other non-Apple devices we needed to manage.
What is most valuable?
The ability to deploy scripts to our managed MacBooks for various purposes has proven to be a very powerful tool that we are still learning how to leverage.
What needs improvement?
Sometimes the Jamf's cloud-hosted servers feel like they could be a little more powerful. We've never run into an issue, but some of the things that have been said from other customers we have contact and a good working relationship with or during a couple of support calls with Jamf have just made it seem that the cloud instances can't quite hold up to requirements for larger deployments and more resources need to be allocated to each instance during setup.
For how long have I used the solution?
One to three years.

Infrastructure Consultant at a marketing services firm with 1,001-5,000 employees
Easy to use with great patching and a simple setup
Pros and Cons
- "We found the initial setup to be simple."
- "The patching can definitely use a little bit of improvement. They should make it a little bit more automated."
What is our primary use case?
We use the product to manage everything Apple, including MacBooks, iPhones, and iPads.
How has it helped my organization?
In general, it just has allowed us to deploy Macs and iPhones easier and more securely to our end users. We can also maintain software updates.
What is most valuable?
The ease of use is very good. Patching is also really easy with the tool as well.
We found the initial setup to be simple.
What needs improvement?
Anything could always use improvement. The patching can definitely use a little bit of improvement. They should make it a little bit more automated. That's the only thing I would say could use a little bit of enhancement.
I'd like to see more security-based profiling. One of the other competitor products, Kandji, has an entire section of pre-built profiles for things like initial security requirements. You can just pick the security requirement and then implement it. You don't have to code it all up as you do with Jamf, since they don't have that feature in there right now. If you're going through major security changes in your company.
For how long have I used the solution?
I've used the solution probably for about six years at this point.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The product is about 100% stable. It's the best solution in the industry.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We've had no issues with scalability. You go from a small number of devices to thousands of devices, and there's no change. There's no slowness or anything like that. It just continues to function.
We have about 700 iPhones, and about 250 to 300 MacBooks right now, and user roles range from developers to CEOs.
We will increase usage. We always have a desire to increase usage, however, we have a choice program in place for our users. Therefore, if a Windows person wants to switch, when their time is ready for a refresh, they can choose a Mac device.
How are customer service and support?
There are no issues with support. I've always had great service with them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We used Workspace ONE by AirWatch for iPhones, and we switched due to the fact that we wanted a single solution to manage all the back Apple devices.
How was the initial setup?
The solution's initial setup is very straightforward. They also provide a guide for you to come in, and they help you with everything from start.
It was already in the current company I work with. It was already deployed in the previous one. We did it in a pilot project for about a month, and then we were able to move it into production pretty quickly. It all depends on your skill level. When you bring the vendor in with their sort of prep package; they do it in about four days with you.
We have a first-level service desk. We also have first-level desktop support, and then third-level would be me. I'm probably the only one with a lot of Macs or Apple experience, therefore, I'm probably the single person maintaining it other than like the basic day-to-day stuff, that the other people do.
What about the implementation team?
This is my second company using it, so I didn't really need any assistance to get it going.
What was our ROI?
ROI is always hard. With Microsoft solutions, everything's baked into your 365 licensing, including Intune. It's hard to break out the licensing, like an ROI properly due to the fact that Microsoft doesn't do that. They just have the one-time costs for everything Microsoft these days.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
We only really look at the numbers once a year. I would not say it's the cheapest solution on the market, however, I would also say you get what you pay for when you sign up for any of these services. While there are cheaper ones, I would also say the cheaper ones are the cheaper ones across the board, so it's not necessarily great to go with the cheaper solution.
There are no extra fees. Once you have that in place, you're pretty much good to go.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We did not evaluate other solutions before choosing this product.
What other advice do I have?
I'm just an end-user.
I would advise users to definitely go with a Cloud solution if they can. It just makes life that much easier.
I'd rate the solution at a nine out of ten. I've used it for a long time. I've never had a problem and it works great. That said, I could see there are a couple of little things that they could do, to definitely improve the product.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
Public Cloud

System and Network Administrator at a non-tech company with 501-1,000 employees
Beneficial policies, highly stable, and scalable
Pros and Cons
- "I have found the most valuable feature to be the policies."
- "I think there's room for improvement on the automation. For example, uploading a package to Jamf Pro and then updating the policy and other aspects, should be automatic. For instance, if I put a new version of the software, version 11 and the previous one was 10, Jamf Pro should be able to recognize if there's an update and update the policy automatically. It's not a big deal, but I think there's room for improvement."
What is our primary use case?
I use Jamf Pro to deploy software on my computers in our school and manage them.
How has it helped my organization?
Jamf Pro has improved my organization because I can have all my computers up to date on certain software, and it's very convenient for me.
What is most valuable?
I have found the most valuable feature to be the policies.
What needs improvement?
I think there's room for improvement on the automation. For example, uploading a package to Jamf Pro and then updating the policy and other aspects, should be automatic. For instance, if I put a new version of the software, version 11 and the previous one was 10, Jamf Pro should be able to recognize if there's an update and update the policy automatically. It's not a big deal, but I think there's room for improvement.
There are a few additional features I am looking for in the next release. There should be a better way to implement malware protection. I know that Jamf is selling a product to do it, but I think a large part of it can be maintained directly inside the MDM without more cost. I think buying another software to protect the computer is a bit abusive. For instance, most of it can be done by running a script. It should be implemented in a better way.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Jamf Pro for a year and a half.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Jamf Pro is highly stable. I have never had a day of downtime since I have been using it.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
I have found Yannick Jamf Pro to be scalable. I can work with a very small group of computers or I can update 500 of them in a few minutes.
We have approximately 500 people using the solution and they are mainly teachers.
I use it every day and I update the software once a week. Friday is a big day for me for the usage of the solution and for the rest of the time, it's only small maintenance or emergency operations that I use once in a while. Every day I check in if I've had issues or I check the logs for problems with deployments, and so on. I check it all the time, even when I'm not working, I check it on my phone. It's very convenient.
How are customer service and support?
I have never had the need to use technical support. If I have an issue, I go to the website Jamf Nation, which is a community of Jamf users and I usually I find my solution there.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I have used two different solutions previously to Jamf Pro, which were MDM and FileWave. There was a third solution we were using but we had to remove it because it was bought by another software company, and it turned into abandonware. I had to look for another solution because all three that I used previously were not good solutions. Jamf Pro was a good solution.
How was the initial setup?
The installation was very easy. It was done by the software company which I work with. The implementation took one day.
What about the implementation team?
We used an integrator for the implementation and my experience with them was great.
I do the maintenance and support of the solution in my organization.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I did evaluate many other solutions from different vendors. There were approximately six or seven of them. The closest one I found that met my needs was not even close to matching the useability of Jamf Pro. Jamf Pro is very focused on the Mac system, which gives it a large advantage over the competition.
What other advice do I have?
I would recommend those wanting to use this solution to try out the on-premise trial version to see how it works and how you can use it to do deployments. I tried it and it was a real eyeopener. The trial is very good and done well.
I rate Jamf Pro a nine out of ten.
Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
On-premises

IT Technician at a educational organization with 501-1,000 employees
One feature which stands out is the ability to manage the devices all in one console
What is our primary use case?
To manage our ever growing Apple computers and mobile devices from things like device rollout, to apps and software distribution and inventory management and collections. We are a K-12 school with three campuses of over 500 students and over 400 staffs.
How has it helped my organization?
Rolling out devices has never been easier, Jamf helps minimise the workload on our IT department. Managing a large number of devices requires a lot of manpower and Jamf helps reduce that. Zero-touch rollout at its best.
What is most valuable?
I think the question should be what features have you not found valuable, as all features are useful but if I have to choose the one that stands out for us, it is the ability to manage the devices all in one console so to say.
What needs improvement?
More software titles in the patch management updates, this will help reduce creating packages for software updates.
For how long have I used the solution?
Three to five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
very good, very stable and when things go wrong its always resolved in a good time manner
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
no comment on this.
How are customer service and technical support?
awesome technical support, not an issue with the software they can't fix or resolve.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
previous solution was manual control, meaning we have to setup individual devices one by one. Not ideal.
How was the initial setup?
straight forward no complex at all.
What about the implementation team?
IN-House for us.
What was our ROI?
no investment, just need to be done in our organisation.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
If you can afford to go cloud services rather than on premises install go for it, it makes life easier when JAMF handles the physical server and JAMF Pro updates.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
yeah we did and find nothing compared to what JAMF Pro can do.
What other advice do I have?
Give doing what you're doing. It works.

IT Professional at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Has made new computer deployments more efficient and modernized
What is our primary use case?
We use Jamf Pro to manage Macs used for media production and to keep the production environment consistent.
How has it helped my organization?
Jamf Pro has enabled us to move away from legacy imaging workflows and make use of Apple's Device Enrollment Program. This has made new computer deployments more efficient and modernized.
What is most valuable?
Package deployment and management of configuration profiles is easy and flexible with Jamf Pro and are both crucial to our workflows.
What needs improvement?
We would really like to be able to separate managed computers by the role they're used for, but Jamf Pro only has limited functionality for this with the "sites" feature.
For how long have I used the solution?
One to three years.

Self-service on the Mac and iOS is a life saver
What is our primary use case?
We use Jamf Pro to manage our 1:1 iPad and MacBook programs. We have over 3,000 devices and just two people to manage them.
How has it helped my organization?
We could not handle the volume of devices as an Apple school without Jamf Pro managing our fleet. It is easy to use, has great support and the best community of people working together that I have found.
What is most valuable?
- Self-service on the Mac and iOS is a life saver.
- It allows us to put software out there for users to install when they need it along printers for the whole campus — saves us hours of work.
What needs improvement?
There are some layout things that could be done to make it easier. For instance, allow us to go to a smart group and see what policies have been assigned to the group, then be able to assign and unassign them right there instead of going into each individual policy.
For how long have I used the solution?
Three to five years.
