The portal is not user-friendly, it is too complicated, and registering devices is very difficult
Pros and Cons
  • "The product enables us to access our internal applications from anywhere in the world."
  • "The portal is not user-friendly."

What is our primary use case?

The product enables us to access our internal applications through any device from anywhere.

What is most valuable?

It's a very good technology. If I’m in Saudi Arabia today and in the USA tomorrow, I can access our internal applications without any downtime. I can access our office application through mobile phones, laptops, or other personal devices. People suffered losses during COVID-19. The product enables us to access our internal applications from anywhere in the world.

What needs improvement?

Compared to Microsoft, VMware Workspace ONE must improve many things. The VMware Workspace ONE portal is too complicated. The portal is not user-friendly. Accessing the web-based application is complicated. Registering devices is very difficult.

VMware Workspace ONE must be improved a lot. Searching the menu is very difficult. Everything is too complicated. People prefer immediate results, but it is not easy to find things on VMware Workspace ONE. Unified Access Gateway and UEM are very difficult. The menu and options are not visible properly.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for almost three years.

How was the initial setup?

The solution is deployed on the cloud. The installation is not complicated. We are using it on the cloud. The on-premises solution is not available for the past two to three years. The vendor provides guidelines for installation. It is very easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The tool is expensive. VMware products are always expensive.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Microsoft Intune’s portal is more user-friendly than VMware Workspace ONE’s portal. We can register devices on Microsoft Intune within a second. I'm more happy with Microsoft Intune.

What other advice do I have?

Hypervisor and vCenter are good solutions. I will not recommend the solution to others. VMware Workspace ONE has to improve a lot compared to other vendors. Overall, I rate the product a three out of ten.

If public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid cloud, which cloud provider do you use?

An easy-to-use solution that offers its users of a single platform to manage all their devices
Pros and Cons
  • "Sometimes, we face an issue and raise a ticket. The technical support team is fantastic and resolves the issue."
  • "Pricing is a limitation. I think it's on the higher side, so if it were cheaper, it would benefit more organizations."

What is our primary use case?

The solution's use cases can vary depending on the organization. For example, we have deployed projects for BYOD, Mac Management, and Windows Management solutions. Each project is different and tailored to the specific needs of the organization. One of the benefits for our customers is the ease of use with a single platform to manage all devices. The dashboard is visually appealing and provides compliance insights for CIOs and CTOs to review.

What is most valuable?

Windows Patch Management is a wonderful feature of the solution.

What needs improvement?

The solution is an improved version. Pricing is a limitation. I think it's on the higher side, so if it were cheaper, it would benefit more organizations.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have experience with VMware Workspace ONE for more than five years. I am working as a SI, and my company has a partnership with Microsoft or VMware. We are a premium partner for VMware. Also, I am using the latest version of the solution.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a very stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a highly scalable solution, allowing you to start with a hundred licenses and scale up to multiple lakh licenses.

How are customer service and support?

Sometimes, we face an issue and raise a ticket. The technical support team is fantastic and resolves the issue. VMware is a well-known brand that doesn't need any acknowledgment.

How was the initial setup?

The setup process was not complex since my company mostly sells cloud-based instances, which means they are already pre-configured. We only need to configure the policies based on the use cases, and it works seamlessly. Therefore, the setup process is effortless. Additionally, the solution does not require any maintenance as it is a cloud instance, and all maintenance will be taken care of by VMware.

What was our ROI?

My company's customers have experienced a return on investment using the solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Currently, the product is priced at around 50 USD. However, in India, there is a similar product available for around 25 USD.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

In comparison to other tools, VMware Workspace ONE has some cons, especially from a pricing perspective. However, one of its pros is that other tools may not manage identity or access as effectively. Despite this advantage, the pricing of VMware Workspace ONE is still considered relatively high.

What other advice do I have?

VMware products, in my opinion, is an exceptional product, and it allows for the management of a complete device fleet from a single console. It can manage Windows, Mac, Android, or iOS devices, and policy configurations are straightforward to deploy. I would recommend this solution to others since I have already recommended it to most of my customers. Overall, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.

Good virtualization, fair pricing, and responsive support
Pros and Cons
  • "I found the initial setup to be easy."
  • "We'd like to see a better connection to Microsoft Azure and a better connection with Check Point."

What is our primary use case?

We have some VMware products, and the company uses Workspace ONE since we use the virtualization product, VMware. This is just a virtualization product.

In work before, we have used the VMware direct connection.

What is most valuable?

In VMware, its virtualization is good.

I found the initial setup to be easy.

We can scale the solution if we need to.

The pricing is good.

Support is helpful and responsive.

What needs improvement?

We have some problems with Workspace ONE. We have used the politic MDM for mobile, and it was probably one month before one account just removed it. It's likely an error from Samsung since this device gets updates from Samsung. Once an update happened, they remove this from the MDM platform from Workspace ONE. However, I could not track down the reason this happened.

We'd like to see a better connection to Microsoft Azure and a better connection with Check Point.

It's not completely stable.

While we have some wrappers in the product, I don't usually find what I want.

The two-factor identification process needs to be easier.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using the solution for four months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution isn't too stable. We've had some errors with the device. I'd rate the stability ya three out of five in terms of stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution can scale.

We have around 250 people using it currently. About ten people use the admin panel.

How are customer service and support?

We've used technical support in the past since we have had problems along the way. Typically, issues can be resolved within a week. That's not too long to wait.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We're still using VMware Workspace ONE and now starting to use Microsoft Intune.

We are just now starting to use Microsoft Intune, and it's much better than Workspace ONE. It's easy to use for updates. And for control, it's also simpler since we have Office 365 and we have an all-in-one approach with Intune and Azure Active Directory. InTune is just better in a Microsoft environment.

How was the initial setup?

It's not very difficult. The platform is pretty easy. I did find, however, that the two-factor authentication took some time. I'd rate the overall process a three out of five in terms of ease of setup.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It is not an expensive solution. The pricing is good. It's also less expensive than InTune. I'd rate their pricing five out of five.

What other advice do I have?

I'm a customer and end-user.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten. I've been pretty happy with its capabilities.

A highly scalable product that provides seamless integration with third-party tools and improves remote workforce support
Pros and Cons
  • "The product has fully automated features that help people do tasks easily."
  • "The technical support could be improved."

What is most valuable?

All the features, including Web, Android, and iOS Management, are valuable. Workspace ONE Intelligence is also a valuable tool. The streamlining of device management tasks is incorporated into the tool. We do not have to do much. The product has fully automated features that help people do tasks easily. It has been improving remote workforce support for eight years. It provides access to all our systems at any time from any place. It also provides seamless integration with third-party tools and single sign-on.

What needs improvement?

The technical support could be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for 13 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I rate the tool’s stability a ten out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the tool’s scalability a ten out of ten. I recommend the solution for small and big organizations.

How are customer service and support?

We do not use support much since we are experienced. Product-related issues occur due to new functions. It is sometimes difficult for the first-level support to understand the full context of the problem.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

We did not face any challenges while implementing the solution. We manage very big customers to very small customers. They are doing well. The tool is easy to deploy and easy to use. It is transparent to the end user.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution’s pricing is favorable.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have used solutions from Microsoft, SAP, and MobileIron.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate the product a ten out of ten.

Quick to set up and easy to implement platform for monitoring and managing mobile endpoints
Pros and Cons
  • "VMware Workspace ONE is a platform that's really good at monitoring and managing mobile endpoints. It can be set up quickly and implemented easily. Technical support for this solution has always been good."
  • "Patching, fixing, and training for VMware Workspace ONE are areas that need to be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We used AirWatch or VMware Workspace ONE to protect mobile devices on a large scale. They were known for being focused on mobile, more than desktops. They may not be as good on desktops, but the main use case is to monitor and manage mobile endpoints, e.g. wireless devices such as  tablets and phones. AirWatch became well known for being really good at monitoring and managing mobile endpoints.

What needs improvement?

VMware Workspace ONE isn't that good with patching and fixing, especially when compared to BigFix. This is an area for improvement. BigFix did a really good job in terms of patching and fixing, but it had a lot to do with IBM's integration to virtually every other platform out there. That integration really helped from just a server patching and endpoint management situation.

They (IBM) are very good at doing discovery, which is basically surveying the endpoint asset and finding out what vulnerability was there. It might be you're running Windows 10.647, and there are known vulnerabilities below that, so the prioritization of that patching became easy to create rules for, and make sure that you patched all devices with that current OS expeditiously.

Training for VMware Workspace ONE could also be improved, especially when compared to HCL who did a good job, either remote or self-paced.

How are customer service and support?

VMware support has always been good, even if they became a really large company. They have what I call "Amazonitus", e.g. there's a lot of level two triage or level one triage, but you definitely get a response back, though a lot of people have moved away towards self-service. The goal is never to take a phone call if they don't have to, which I understand.

Their tech support is still rock solid on both sides, but would really depend on the kind of problem you have.

How was the initial setup?

The setup for VMware Workspace ONE is good, e.g. there are no complexities, and they all have good discovery now. You plug them in, make sure the nodes are aligned on the network, then you can get to them. The setup process for VMware Workspace ONE and one of its competitors IBM, is very good. They've both done a very good job of it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I was able to evaluate HCL (BigFix), Microsoft, Blackberry, and Ivanti.

What other advice do I have?

AirWatch evolved into VMware Workspace ONE, so it's the same product. AirWatch was more of a competitor of mobile device management and security, so they weren't as good in patching and fixing.

There's another type of solution now that we call unified endpoint management (UEM), and that's a whole new category. I actually have quadrants in that. I know that AirWatch, even when they were acquired by VMware, e.g. it's now VMware Workspace ONE, was still highly rated. HCL is still highly rated. Microsoft was also good. Ironically, another company that was very good for mobile device management and one of the security companies out there is BlackBerry. They're still alive.

I've worked on most of the UEM solutions, including VMware Workspace ONE. For Blackberry, we haven't touched that lately. We have touched BigFix. I do have customers that are still running BlackBerry Spark®. I know even Google is trying to get in the game. Ivanti is also another UEM solution we've been dealing with. There are a number of different ones, e.g. even IBM has moved their MaaS360® platform to try to do unified endpoint management now.

The advice I'd like to give to others looking into implementing VMware Workspace ONE, is for them not to have any qualms about implementing it. Things are quick to set up, even if our team does some very hardcore security things, e.g. identity and access management, all kinds of threat landscape stuff, attack surface monitoring and modeling, etc. VMware Workspace ONE is one of the easier technologies that can be implemented for what we do, so I'm recommending it to others.

In terms of rating VMware Workspace ONE, there are a lot of "mini-categories", so they don't do some of the things I was talking about, or they're just newer into it. If I look at unified endpoint management, e.g. mobile, desktop, and everything combined, I would probably put BigFix high up there. For mobile, I would put VMware Workspace ONE high up there along with some others. Some of the SaaS ones, e.g. Tanium, do a good job, too. BlackBerry actually does a really good job with unified endpoint management, too. They just don't have billions of their devices out there, but in terms of managing their own devices, they were really the best in the early days, with a very secure platform.

HCL for UEM could be rated the best. For mobile, VMware Workspace ONE would rate the best, because they were really focused on that from the very beginning. They led the way, even if in that space you'll see 500 competitors, with people jumping up and jumping down, and constantly moving. VMware Workspace ONE in the mobile space has been very sustained in terms of how they've been rated and how they've grown over time. They owned the market with four or five of these solutions, and they were able to maintain the lead.

I could rate VMware Workspace ONE eight out of ten, but it would still depend on the use cases. BigFix is better for unified endpoint management, the ability to patch all assets, etc. VMware, on the other hand, is more focused on mobile. VMware being an infrastructure company and everybody inexpensively spinning up VMs all over the place: they've tried to pull that side a little more toward the infrastructure side, desktops, and PCs, and even on the networks, but both of them have grown tremendously.

In the last two or three years, for obvious reasons, with all the resiliency planning we do now for mobile workforces, it's really important for them to develop new capabilities, which I think they have, but this has been really good for their development. They've seen everything at this point.

Wide range of features and has great technical support
Pros and Cons
  • "The Identity component of this solution is its most valuable feature."
  • "They need a more flexible pricing model."

What is most valuable?

Workspace ONE has a pretty broad range of features and capabilities. It's like a market-wide buffet that hasn't yet spread out. However, when compared to its competitors, such as Microsoft Intune, Intune is behind the game, but it has been catching up in terms of the capabilities and features that it now has to offer.

The Identity component of this solution is its most valuable feature.

VMware provides a wide range of services that are second to none.

What needs improvement?

They need a more flexible pricing model.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with VMware Workspace ONE for four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

In terms of stability, I would say VMware Workspace ONE is fairly stable, but not every OEM vendor in the world can provide products that are error-free. When it comes to fixing errors, I believe VMware is on the right track. The problems aren't bothering the customers.

There are some errors but nothing that is of concern and it gets corrected quickly.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

When compared to its competitors such as Microsoft, VMware is a much more scalable product, in my opinion.

When it comes to their SaaS offering, I would say the product is a little more flexible and scalable.

How are customer service and support?

In terms of support, I would say it is adequate. When compared to Microsoft, I would say VMware support is excellent. However, there are times when you need to escalate certain issues in order to gain traction. And if you're not getting anywhere with your support cases, you may need to escalate internally.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, I worked with Microsoft Intune.

Microsoft's licensing is more flexible and adaptive, in my opinion. In Microsoft, you pay for whatever you use. In terms of services, it is more evenly distributed. You only need to pay for one license to get access to a suite of products. From your office to your endpoint, you are essentially managing your endpoint. Everything is combined into a single console. somewhat more flexible on the Microsoft side, which is lacking on the VMware side.

In terms of features, I believe VMware has struck the right chord. However, there are some features in Microsoft that are lacking. I'm confident that Microsoft will try to catch up over time, and it will be there, within the next year or two.

How was the initial setup?

I would say it was a straightforward process because if you are a potential lead for the product, the relevant stakeholders, such as the sales team, take action and then convert it. They perform POCs.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I would say that at the very least the pricing needs to be revised. Workspace ONE is on the higher end of the pricing band when compared to other players in the market.

Pricing may need to be subsidized.

The price is reasonable given the features that Workspace ONE provides.

Not every company or every organization in the world can afford the VMware Workspace ONE just for the features. Some companies might be using some of the features, and they will have to pay for the rest of the features, even if they are not utilizing them.

What other advice do I have?

I am not currently affiliated with any company, such as a solution provider, an MSP, or a product company that sells this product. I'm now more interested in DevOps.

I haven't been in touch with MDM technology in about six to eight months. We were gold-certified partners with VMware, as well as Microsoft.

I was a partner selling services and developing solutions for their customers.

I would advise them to first prioritize what they want to achieve. Rather than wandering aimlessly through the market in search of a specific product. First, they must understand or, more likely, articulate their use cases. And then, based on the pricing model, decide whether they want a lot more features so that they can use the services later on, rather than just going with whatever players are available in the market.

Make certain that it is the solution you require.

I would rate VMware Workspace ONE an eight out of ten.

Flexible platform providing a stable environment for operations
Pros and Cons
  • "The platform provides a stable environment for operations and quickly creates new environments. Additionally, it offers efficient flexibility."
  • "The product's stability for certain instances needs improvement."

What is our primary use case?

We use the product to manage virtual machines and services within a company's infrastructure. Over time, the focus has shifted towards incorporating additional features like container services.

What is most valuable?

The platform provides a stable environment for operations and quickly creates new environments. Additionally, it offers efficient flexibility.

What needs improvement?

The product's stability for certain instances needs improvement.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using VMware Workspace ONE under guidance for about two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Workspace ONE's stability is eight out of ten. While it's considered stable in general, there are situations where it feels somewhat risky, especially when pushing the limits of its capabilities. In these instances, there may be concerns about stability, particularly when the environment runs slower.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The number of users fluctuates depending on the project's stability and requirements.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment duration of Workspace ONE can vary depending on several factors. For example, converting and testing could take some time if an organization has a VMware environment with approximately ten Linux servers. However, leveraging Azure offerings may streamline certain aspects of the deployment process, such as copying virtual machines directly into the Azure environment. Additionally, organizations working with government or ministry clients, who often utilize specialized environments, may require additional time for meticulous preparation and replicating the environment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

While the platform offers comprehensive solutions, it can be expensive, especially if you only need it for occasional testing and deployment.

What other advice do I have?

We prioritize integrating new applications and platforms into Workspace ONE and replicating the client environment, facilitating our development process. We typically develop, test, and then restore environments, which covers most of our cases.

We have clients with proprietary systems, and it's more convenient for us to upload their virtual machines to Azure. Instead of installing everything, I prefer copying their virtual machines from on-premises VMware environments. However, when updating these virtual machines on Azure, I have to install agents and other components each time. I would like to have a mobile solution in the cloud to streamline this process.

As someone who works in a development environment without stringent production requirements, someone other than me might be the target user for Workspace ONE. Before deciding, assessing whether the features and capabilities align with the individual or organization's requirements is important.

I rate it an eight out of ten.

A tool that needs to improve scalability but is useful to manage user
Pros and Cons
  • "Personally, VMware Identity Manager is useful for comparison purposes so that I can provide better solutions to my company's customers."
  • "There is a need for better user lifecycle management within VMware Identity Manager, along with better user governance...The scalability of the product needs to improve."

What is our primary use case?

VMware Identity Manager is a part of VMware Horizon, which is utilized to manage users. I was previously an employee of VMware. I continued using products from VMware, even in HP, Accops, and Novel.

Personally, VMware Identity Manager is useful for comparison purposes so that I can provide better solutions to my company's customers.

What is most valuable?

Feature-wise, VMware Identity Manager is not a good product but can definitely be considered an average product. Though VMware claims that VMware Identity Manager is an IAM solution, it is just 50 percent of what an IAM product delivers.

The advantages of VMware Identity Manager can be experienced if one uses VMware Horizon.

What needs improvement?

There is a need for better user lifecycle management within VMware Identity Manager, along with better user governance, including the separation of duties of the users. In my company, we are not able to create a policy for the separation of duties of the users, so it is an area where improvement is required. The official authentication and fingerprint authentication should be part of VMware Identity Manager, and I feel these areas are currently missing.

The scalability of the product needs to improve. The product should be tightly integrated with the third-party products because it's not like a customer is going to purchase all the VMware products, as they might have different solutions for different purposes.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using VMware for eight years, and I have experience with VMware Identity Manager for five or six years. I have been using VMware Identity Manager in my present company for over twenty months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product has a lot of bugs. If you search on Google, you will find that the product has a lot of vulnerabilities.

Stability-wise, I rate the solution a seven out of ten.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a six out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

Earlier, the technical support offered for the product was good. After Broadcom acquired the product, there were many concerns among the employees of the solution, and many employees of VMware left the organization. The recent developments in the acquisition of VMware and Broadcom, and because its employees are leaving the organization, leading to a reduction in the workforce, have raised concerns among the product's users.

I rate the support a seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have experience with ARCON, 1Kosmos, and InstaSafe. VMware Identity Manager can't be described as a full-fledged solution for identity management. VMware is too costly, which is a reason why customers avoid it.

How was the initial setup?

The product's initial setup phase was difficult since it is a Linux appliance that is not totally integrated with all the solutions.

Not just with VMware Identity Manager, but all the products that fall under VMware Horizon request around a period of 30 days to finish the deployment process.

There is a need for four engineers, one project manager, and one solution architect to deploy the product.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

What was our ROI?

With an increase in the cost of the solution, the customers who use the product are not experiencing any return on investment.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

A person should pay towards the licensing costs of VMware Identity Manager on a yearly or monthly basis, but government and public sector units cannot for a perpetual licensing model. VMware recently increased the costs attached to the support offered to users. Some of the customers who use VMware have been complaining that the new costs for support add up to an additional 30 percent overhead costs if they decide to go for renewal.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I still evaluate products like ARCON, 1Kosmos, and InstaSafe against VMware Identity Manager.

What other advice do I have?

The maintenance of the product is difficult since there is a need to have so much dependency on other products or solutions, for which you need to ensure that you are on the same page with other vendors. The maintenance of the product is quite complex since there are too many dependencies.

For the maintenance of the product, a user needs to have access to L1, L2, and L3 support because of the tool's relation with end-user computing. If there are any issues with the solution, then the user won't be able to do work, which hampers the user's productivity.

I rate the product a five out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises
