What is our primary use case?
VMware Workspace ONE facilitates application management on mobile devices.
Moreover, VMware is not limited to mobile devices; it's also used for Windows 10, 11, and Mac management.
We've actually started engaging with that. Among the large deals involving 20,000 to 25,000 users, we're working on that one, like putting different backbone issues together.
How has it helped my organization?
Workspace ONE has improved our remote productivity very much. I would rate it a nine out of ten, with ten being very productive.
We've seen that user productivity has increased because users get their laptops or desktops compliant and enabled with the right software, system joining, and compliance, all within a few hours, not two days anymore. That's the experience we've seen in customers.
We've configured single sign-on for two or three enterprise customers, and it works very well. Complications arise when customers use third-party identity providers like Okta. Then, the integrations become slightly complicated, and we need to understand the separate SSO solutions to handle that.
But for customers without third-party SSO, it's straightforward. Otherwise, we need to assess compatibility.
The user policy enforcement in Workspace ONE has helped in maintaining compliance within the organization. It can meet the compliance requirements on a systematic and visibility perspective. It's very high compared to traditional solutions.
What is most valuable?
There are multiple features. It depends on the customer's use case, but for customers using VMware, we've seen that conditional-based authentication establishing a micro VPN channel to internal applications is most valuable. They know these are the only devices accessing their internal applications, and no outside devices can access any applications.
That's the overall security posture organizations are looking for, and that's what we're delivering right now.
Moreover, the integration capability of Workspace ONE enhances the IT infrastructure. Good integrations are available. There are a few limitations, but both Citrix and VMware are working on enhancements. But the integrations are pretty much similar.
What needs improvement?
I'd like to see more integration capabilities in future releases.
There is room for improvement in support, it could be faster.

For how long have I used the solution?
I have been working with this solution for more than ten years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
Stability has been very good. There is no downtime as of now, but SLAs are defined with OEMs, and penalties apply if missed.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
We've deployed over a thousand devices, so it is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
We've used VMware Secure support, and it's good, but the response time can be slightly delayed, sometimes up to three or four hours.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
I used Citrix. Citrix isn't doing anything on this aspect anymore. My experience from last year is mostly on VMware Workspace ONE.
Citrix is no more positioning properly to customers the value addition and the product value in the future part.
We've also started with Intune in the last two to three years.
How was the initial setup?
The setup is moderately complex. However, the complexity depends on the use case. For example, What features are we enabling? How complex are the policies and security controls? It's a moderate deployment because it involves the end-user side.
We need to train users initially on what to do and not do, home storage, etc. So, it's a moderate one-time setup, but once done, day-to-day operation is very simple and less complicated.
What about the implementation team?
For the deployment process, we conduct proper use case seminars to understand the customer's holistic approach. We consider department, compliance, security, end-user needs, workflow, etc. Laptops are shipped directly or to employees' homes, depending on the use case.
We then map the use case to features, deploy, demonstrate configuration, and install the back end. So, we follow a layered approach based on the use cases.
We have cloud deployments and direct cloud leverage for some customers. We're even working on a customer's on-prem to cloud migration.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
All licenses from VMware are only yearly. They start with a yearly license and look for a three-year commitment and yearly PO. So, it's a yearly license only, no monthly options.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I would rate the solution a nine out of ten. I would advise others to evaluate their use case and definitely move towards endpoint management overall to improve user productivity.
Organizations with a hybrid culture and employee-friendly policies allowing home workspace should consider it as it enhances user experience and productivity.
