Centralized device management has transformed security and streamlined remote provisioning
One area where Microsoft Intune can improve is the user interface. Sometimes the portal feels a bit complex and not very intuitive, especially for new users, and it can take time to find specific settings. Another point is troubleshooting. While logs are available, the diagnostic policies and sync issues can still be time-consuming and not very straightforward. I also feel that reporting could be more detailed and customizable. The built-in reports are helpful, but for deeper insights, I often need to rely on additional tools. Overall, it is a strong solution, but improving usability and troubleshooting experience would make it even better. While Microsoft Intune works very well within the Microsoft ecosystem, the integration of some third-party tools could be smoother and require less customization. Support is another area that could improve, as sometimes response times can be slow, and resolving complex issues may take longer than expected. In terms of features, I think more advanced automation and built-in remediation options would be helpful since common issues can be fixed automatically without manual intervention.

Seamless provisioning and application deployment enhance workflow, yet enhancements in asset and software spend management roles are acknowledged
The zero-touch capability where you can install all the business applications and deliver the laptop to the user, who just needs to log on to complete everything without any human intervention, are the best features in Ivanti Neurons for MDM. We have security features, patch management, compliance reports, and dashboards integrated within Ivanti.

I have not encountered many areas for improvement, but there are feature requests submitted to Jamf Pro for reporting purposes that they are working on. Jamf Pro continues to increase its capabilities. One improvement I would recommend is integrating Jamf Setup Manager as an inbuilt feature. Currently, it is a separate tool that needs to be installed and integrated with Jamf Pro. Having zero-touch capability as an inbuilt feature would eliminate the need to work with scripts and configurations. The pricing of Jamf Pro is relatively high. Jamf Pro does not have a fixed price for all organizations. Based on my experience, they offer discounts inconsistently. Due to the high pricing, many organizations are moving to InTune and Workspace ONE. There are many other tools in the market for Mac OS device management, such as ScaleFusion, Addigy, and Kandji. Small organizations are moving to these alternatives, and larger organizations with fewer security concerns are moving to InTune. Despite being expensive, I still rate Jamf Pro highly because of its security features and comprehensive management capabilities for Mac OS devices.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The aspects I find most valuable are the managing the data and applications. I can also restrict the users to install any applications. I can also wipe the data if the phone was missplaced or stolen. These are the basics for me."
"No one can compete with Microsoft when it comes to price, and the features it is offering."
"The Advanced Endpoint Analytics in Microsoft Intune has improved and helps us proactively detect and remediate anomalies in endpoints."
"If I assess Intune's user experience, I would say it is perfect and simple."
"Fortunately, now everything is streamlined into a single, unified platform."
"The most valuable features are that users can make screenshots, and devices only need the minimal version of iOS."
"It significantly reduces the overhead associated with providing support."
"Intune device restriction policies enable me to enforce limitations on the device, like blocking the mobile camera or restricting the employees from using and inserting USB devices, including thumb drives and flash drives."
"The products are quite good when they are operational."
"The most valuable feature is that everything is in one place, which makes it easy to manage."
"MobileIron UEM is a scalable solution."
"It's effective in what it is able to achieve and it's easy to use."

"Jamf Pro fits our needs in one hundred percent of the cases and helps us satisfy our customers."
"It's the best Mobile Device Management on the market for Apple devices in my opinion."
"The self-service portal to share scripts and other tasks that have extremely minimized the need for calls to our support teams, or even sharing the applications we package and allowing users to pick and choose what apps they need or want, instead of just blanket installing everything from our old environment."
"Jamf Pro has allowed us to make sure settings for our devices are easily installed so our end-users don't need to worry about a significant amount of steps for setup."
"This solution has been a huge timesaver."
"If you want to manage a complete Mac, for example, similar to how we do in a CCM for our core Windows devices, if you want to do that with Mac, then the Jamf tool is the best tool."
"It's a scalable product."
"I manage 1000+ Macs and 200+ iPads from Jamf and am able to manage software and application updates, pull reports, and scope out certain policies and configuration profiles to a specific set of computers or mobile devices, all from a single pane of glass."

Cons

"From a new user's perspective, it may be a little overwhelming because there are quite a few things to look at in the console, however, once you are sort of acclimated and are familiar with your core functions, it's fairly simple and straightforward."
"We faced issues with macOS support. The product should have better inventory and asset management."
"The Mac integration has room for improvement."
"A major challenge is making all the products work within device management solutions like Intune. It would be beneficial if Microsoft removed support for older products much earlier in the process."
"Intune should improve its software inventory to provide better metering of which software is used throughout the company. This is especially needed for reporting third-party software solutions."
"I'd like to see an ability to deploy more ways of management, managing devices and processing the policies."
"It should be simplified. I've worked with many different mobile device management solutions, and Intune is one of the more complex ones."
"When pushing anything from Microsoft Intune, the sync timing is 48 hours. While sometimes it takes 5 to 10 minutes, the official period given by Microsoft is within 48 hours, which can be time-consuming for policies, applications, or patches."
"It was not an easy initial setup for us. It was a bit difficult and not really straightforward."
"We would like the initial setup to be simpler."
"My impression is that MobileIron is very expensive."

"MobileIron UEM could improve the monitoring of devices."
"The MDM, asset management, and software spend management are areas that could have more improvement in Ivanti Neurons for MDM."
"The interface is complicated and not very easy to use."
"The disadvantage in connection with Windows devices is that the pushing of policies takes some time."
"I would love to see more integration with ASM and ABM."
"There is room for improvement with Jamf Pro, especially regarding updates."
"I would like to see either a report section or an integration with a new reporting module to allow us to pull real metrics from the system easily."
"Jamf could improve versioning as in outright blocking OS upgrades or improving maintaining every application’s update feature."
"I would love to see GSX (Apple Global Service Exchange) integration populate purchasing data during the enrollment process."
"If I had to suggest an area of improvement would be the UI. It can be very all over the place and complex."
"We would really like to be able to separate managed computers by the role they're used for, but Jamf Pro only has limited functionality for this with the "sites" feature."
"I would like to see MFA integration added to the SSO feature, as well as having it expanded to accommodating multiple servers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It comes with the E5 plan. We bought the E5 plan from Microsoft."
"There is a license needed for this solution and it is either included in one of the enterprise license agreements. Microsoft licensing is a mathematical institute, it could be quite complex. We tend to ask specialized organizations to research what the most profitable way it would be for us to use licenses in the organizations."
"If you're ever going to buy an Office 365 environment, then pricing is reasonable given all that it does, but if you're not, then you might find the pricing expensive."
"Microsoft Intune is included in the E5 license at no additional cost."
"Most of our clients come to us with licensing already in place. On average, it costs $6 per device per month to add Intune to an Office 365 subscription, but I am not sure."
"If you ask the accountant or the finance department, they'll tell you that it is way too expensive, but when I look at the cost and compare it with the value you actually get, it's more than fair."
"Microsoft licenses are costly."
"The price of Microsoft Intune is reasonable."
"My impression is that MobileIron is very expensive."
"The price of MobileIron UEM is very good."
"JumpStart looks a little bit pricey; however, it is worth every penny."
"Setup and licensing prices are getting to be too high."
"The setup is pricey upfront for support and setup."
"The licensing costs for this solution are high."
"They have a standard pricing model which they follow, and it's global."
"The cost of Jamf is certainly worth the investment."
"The total ROI is worth every penny."
"The only thing that is kicking us a bit is the rand to the dollar exchange rate. It is priced in dollars. Every time the rand goes worse, it just costs more. I would rate it a four out of five in terms of pricing because it is very unpredictable because of the rand to the dollar exchange rate."
